Hey all,

I have a v9b 100 smallie and I'm in the process of restoring it.

I'm by no means a pro and I barely understand what I'm doing, but slowly slowly (thanks to this amazing community) there's progress.

Currently I'm working on the stator and I can't for my life find an identical stator online or a diagram so I can understand the purpose of every coil and wire.

It looks similar to the primavera one but not exactly the same.

I already took it out, removed the old destroyed wires and soldered new silicone ones.

So I have 3 questions.

1. While I understand which is the black ground wire and which is the red one that goes to the spark, I'm not quite sure about the other 3 wires. Could someone provide some help?
[See picture attached]

2. How can I check the coils and condenser if they need changing? Do I check their resistance? how much should it be?

3. After I soldered the new wires, I was checking with my multimeter and noticed that the 5 wires that end up in the junction box have continuity between them.
Does that mean there's a short? Or is that normal since every coil is grounded?

🤔

P.s
I was riding this bike for over 10 years and it always had 2 issues. The horn would randomly make a faint noise and the engine would stall when hitting the rear brakes. Now I know why. All the insulation of the wires coming out of the stator and going into the junction box where completely stripped so everything was shorting. It's amazing that the bike was still running with the lights and everything.

Sadly no, but thank you so much for trying to help, I appreciate it.

My vespa doesn't have indicators or battery. Maybe the previous owner removed them? On the headset I do have indicator switches, but that's about it. I get removing the indicators, but why would he remove the battery.

I just quickly drew a diagram.

Is it weird that there's 2 wires coming out of the same coil, the one that goes to the condenser and then the spark?

Could that be the brake light cable? Is that the reason the engine was stalling when using the rear brake?

Is your "black" wire maybe blue? Look at a V9A wire diagram. Show the chassis harness as well as the handlebar switch or switches. Looks like a "normal" five wire, balanced AC stator to my eyes. I

Vespa electrics are pretty much Lego when it comes to non battery wiring.

V9B in the rest of the world doesn't mean 100 Sport. Just a three port 100 motor.

Just sayin'...

Really appreciate all the tips people, thank you so much.

Here's some more photos. Hope they help.

The red wire on my diagram goes to the red on the harness and then returns to the ht coil from what I understand.

Regarding this
"Is your "black" wire maybe blue?"

The black wire on my diagram is not connected to the coil. Just attached on the bolt. Shouldn't the blue be a live wire?

"V9B in the rest of the world doesn't mean 100 Sport. Just a three port 100 motor."

Ohhhh
So my one is basically the same as a 90 but with 10 more CC's?
Never thought of it like that

The switch you've shown is a turn signal switch. Show the right hand switch...
Show the stator harness.
The colors:
Black = ground
Blue = brake lamp and switch
Green = headlight and horn
Yellow = pilot and tail light
Red = ignition coil feed and kill button.

The turn signals are possibly a red herring. Is this a battery bike?

Another helpful tip:
Take a few pictures that include a larger field of view in addition to the close ups. Like the whole headset, any other wiring or accessories, battery area (if applicable), etc.
Seeing the whole picture may reveal problems you might not see.

Again, the turn signal switch seems odd unless this is one of those Japanese or German market models sold in the 90's that had the Hella bar end turn signals and no battery.

Hello again. Just wanted to say a big thank you for all the help and support.

Working on this scooter feels a bit overwhelming especially since my time is so limited, but your support helps a lot.

Both the engine and the frame are in my flat ATM.

The mrs is not very pleased, but I had to sand down the underside as it had some rust. Now i need to apply a nice layer of epoxy primer and then paint.

The stator is resoldered with new silicone wires and spinning the flywheel gives me a faint spark which is good.

Now I can't tell you how many hours I've spent on those dreaded contact points.

It's quite frustrating that when you adjust the contact points with the filler gauge, as soon as I tighten the screw, the whole this shifts. 😡

Just a quick question,
ATM, if i spin the flywheel one full round, about 50% of the cycle, the contacts are open, and 50% closed. should it be less than that? Is that why my spark is so faint?

The animation attached is from this page
https://www.scooterhelp.com/tips/timing/points.timing.over.html
And if it's accurate, the time the points loose contact is very small.

Any thoughts?
*Edit*
Found the answer here
Tach dwell/points gap?
Quote:
Typical dwell angles of between 60 and 70 percent mean that the point are closed for that proportion of the time and are open for 30 to 40 percent.
