Prep tips?

I gather there are different types of plastic chrome which need different prep.

I'm interested in the type piaggio uses for parts such as the chrome front swing arm cover or head/tail light surrounds.

Muriatic acid, available at hardware store. Soak the part in it for 2 weeks and the chrome comes completely off leaving pristine plastic.
