Decided to head over to my older brothers house in St. Paul for some overdue bs and coffee on his front porch, so I put one extra shirt and two spare BVD's in my backpack, tossed a small magnetic tank bag on the Triumph and headed eastward.
Made it a bit around 525 miles before getting a room in Wilmar Minnesota for the night (where I'm posting this from), then, will be heading out shortly for the remaining 150 or so miles into the Twin Cities.
I went 'off course' for around fifty miles yesterday in order to dodge some rain going through the area, so managed to stay dry, a good thing because I didn't bother to bring any rain gear.
I'll get to his house a little after noon, spend a couple hours there, then start back for home in western South Dakota, staying at another hotel in Madison, South Dakota.
This is the first official weekend of the Sturgis Rally, so I will have a LOT of motorcycling company on the return trip amongst the incoming hoard of 'bikers'......and of course, 'trikers' these days.
The Triumph Rocket sucks an impressive amount of 'hi-test' gasoline, so some special attention must be paid to the trip odometer, lest one wants to push a 700 pound motorcycle.
Oh, I DID manage to earn a speeding ticket yesterday, caught going 77 in a 65 zone, but the deputy was nice (as I was), and he took two mph off of it so that I didn't get hammered for being over the limit by more than ten mph, which increases the financial punishment level by a large margin. So, I'll only pay a fine of $117 for my scofflaw behavior....which is the part where I'm 'Cheered up', and can appropriately post this adventure here.
Ok, I'm off to finish my ride to St. Paul, if I encounter more cheeriness during this three day ride, I will post the details later.
