Inspired by Moto64 and chandlerman in the Random no spark! topic, I thought I'd compile a list of stuff we should carry on our NSM bikes. I'm sticking to bike-related stuff. We're all adults and should remember phones/wallets/etc!

Even if you're venturing no further than a mile from home!

Spare wheel
Spare plug
Two-stroke oil
Tool roll, including:
7, 8, 13 mm sockets
Ratchet wrench
Plug socket/wrench
2 clutch cable inners
2 gear change inners
Replacement fuse
2 top hats
2 cable nuts
$20 (or local equivalent) in tool roll - (in case you forget your wallet). Can be used for gas, refreshment, or reimbursing the stranger in a truck who gets you home.

Thanks, qascooter and jedihunter - lots of useful stuff there!

I'll focus on scooter-related gear that should stay with the bike, though clean underwear is a must for any trip outside the house!

Stella's a coffee getter/solo lunch girl. Strictly short urban rides.

I have a tool roll and spare wheel, but if she quits during a ride, I'm calling MoTow or AAA to come get us and bring us home for repairs. I do carry Canyon Dancers just in case, though.

I'm old and arthritic. I am not getting down on the ground fiddling and sweating in my riding gear to diagnose a fault or swap cables.

I think this question should be less about "what do I bring?" and more about having defined contingency plans in place for different scenarios if something does break while you're out.

Personally, I leave the house with everything from "whatever's probably in the glovebox, but I didn't actually check" to fully planned toolkits based on a task inventory of "how deep into the bike will I be willing/needing to go?" that can be pretty effing deep, like splitting cases and relevant spare parts. Which end of the spectrum I'm on is a function of how far I'm going to be riding.

I think Ginch and the rest of the Dark Lords hold the title for roadside repairs around here, as they seem to wind up splitting cases on the side of the road pretty much every time they do the Mille. But they also don't really have a choice if the bike is dead in the middle of the Outback.

Even around town, there's probably a screwdriver or two, a couple of spare cables with pinch bolts, plus some wrenches to adjust them, a pair of pliers, a spark plug, and (if I'm lucky) a spark plug wrench in the glovebox. Usually some two stroke oil since my bikes are mostly pre-mix.

In general, if I can't limp it home (e.g. riding several miles in just second gear) it's within a few miles, I'll just suck it up and push it home. If it's much longer, I'll call a friend or get an Uber and come back with the car.

Yeah, this. Local runs and anything under 20 miles round trip and my cell phone is the only required extra. The Jedi-style kit is for the big rides, rally weekends, etc.

Oh.. I always have a small bottle of 2 stroke tagging along on the premix bikes on the local runs too. Because... premix.

For my 3000-ish km roundtrip next week with my PX220 I bring the following;

-emergency can of 5 litre fuel (unsure of gas stations in Poland)
-extra two stroke oil
-spare gear, throttle and clutch cables
-spark plug
-spark plug cap
-CDI
-light bulbs
-tools for all available nuts and bolts on scooter, including for the spark plug
-AAA membership

That said, even though this is for a 3000km trip, I bring the same minus spare fuel for a trip to the ice cream shop. -it is always in the scooter.

If I take one of the other scooters, I just move the bag over to the scooter in use.

If your tank is full and maintenance is up to date, i.e., you have touched every nut and bolt on your scoot, then a phone and a $100 bill should suffice for <50 mile treks.

Otherwise:

I'd say "third hand" pliers.

Not necessarily mandatory, but it makes tightening cables a bit easier (bought mine before I bought a Vespa).

Edit: A set of jets. You never know when you may wander off up a mountain, and run out of air.

The airbox cover on these bikes were designed to wander up a mountain

Get to an elevation where the motor splutters and loses power.
Remove the rubber "Alps" plug on the cover and the curiously-shaped screw underneath it.
Just make sure you reinstall them there on the way down.

Also a method to test "am I lean or rich?"
