I have a 2003 ET2 that I got brand new back in the day. It's been a good scoot with the usual things that seem to come up. The biggest job I had to do was to tear apart the front to replace the notching steering bearings.

A few days ago, it has passed 26,000 miles! This is still on the original engine! OG rings, piston, etc. It starts up right away and gets to around 45mph on the straights. I did have to replace the stater last year and ever since I did that, fuel economy has actually increased from around 68mpg to now over 70mpg consistently.

So the point of this post is this, I've read several people mention bits in the engine need to be replaced at around 10,000 miles. Even though it starts and runs great, am I sitting on a time bomb where the engine might just give up suddenly since it has such high mileage?

Thanks

I'd say you have one of the good ones!

Performance still seems appropriate for a healthy engine. Engine replacement is seldom necessary unless you neglect maintenance and beat on the scoot like it owes you money.

If it loses power over time, you may be looking at replacing the rings and possibly some seals. It's not gonna go out with a seizure unless you run the autolube tank dry, develop a crack in the rubber intake boot or have a spark plug loosen up and get an air leak.

Ride it, enjoy it and stay on top of the prescribed maintenance.

OK good. I'll just keep doing what I'm doing and see how long this will take me. I did check compression last year and it was around 90psi. I think that is lower than spec but can't argue with driving success.

Thanks!
