My GL decided to throw me today. Dead stop, turning right, combo of fresh grass clippings, and cross walk paint. Under 5 miles an hour, mid turn, the front end washes out. I always figured something would happen at much higher speeds, not this! A little fabric burn on elbow and knee, and a whole lota injured pride! First off in nearly 30 years Facepalm emoticon

Oh man, that's a drag, so sorry. It can be fixed, and no big injuries so that's a positive… of sorts.

Thanks all for the support!
The silver lining is that it was built to ride, and it's sooo much fun to ride! Parts order is already in, I have the paint and tools to repair. And 2.5 weeks to do it before Mile High Mayhem.

That's such a bummer!

Shouldn't be too bad to repair, though, at least. Do you still have some leftover paint?

Getting the new legshield trim crimped around the cables at the fork tube will probably be the hardest part, based on my past similar experiences. It will help if you drop the fork, assuming you weren't going to drop it for the mudguard repair.

Oh that sucks...

You will have to drop the fork for sure to be able to fit the new trim.
Removing the old trim is not an easy task too, especially on the non damaged side.

To do a proper job, you have to grind down the top of the trim until both sides separates, all along the trim, then you will be able to remove it without damaging the legshield.

The cowl is an easy fix, your favorite body shop will proceed with ease, or you can attempt to reshape it yourself and paint or sent it for paint.

Shit happens but could have been way worse.

Small update, bodywork almost ready for paint.
And a PSA
The cause of the off was the crimaz bolt that holds the caliper backed out and was rattling around inside the brake drum, and chose to lock up the front wheel at the least fatal moment. 10 minutes earlier i was doing 80mph .
THIS WAS BUILDER ERROR and not the fault of the product. I love how the whole kit works and would recommend to anyone( just don't let me install it ) . Remember kids locktite is our friend!

Maybe GL's really are cursed, like a wild stallion, or maybe just plain evil, like Christine.

As noted elsewhere, mine tried to jettison its rear wheel and get rid of me that way last weekend.

Or maybe it's a conspiracy by Big GL and they're onto us... *checks over shoulder*

Well thet worked better than I expected.
Some rough and tumble hammer work, a skim of bondo to fill the scratches in the metal, quick blast of primer, mask it and paint. Paint isn't perfect, it will always be a 10 ft. Bike. Have to wait to see if I can wet sand the mask lines out, but they aren't real noticeable. New trim arriving today, should be almost like new tomorrow afternoon!

I really like the disc brake. I have the stiffest spring available, and it will still dive, but it's very predictable. I usually double squeeze to brake , first to set the dive , then modulate the braking force. I've never tried to lock up the front wheel, but I feel it could. I'll definitely put it on my rally and smallframe when the time comes.

That paint line will wet sand out, I just want to give the paint time to harden before I do it. This bike is far from perfect, but I did all the work, and all the learning. The next one will be better!

Thanks for the mini-review!

I have a Dexter Racing front disc on my smallie and I would highly recommend it.

It would do stoppies if I had any interest in that. It also has an anti-dive, though I did relocate the upper shock mount point for better alignment. It definitely kicks mucho ass.

I had to ziptie the carb onto the manifold of my Lammy at Lammy Jammy last summer. When I got home, I fabricated my own manifold and it hasn't popped off since.
