Ok.
Here's the premise. Since my obsession was reignited 25 years ago. My collection has waxed and waned in number from three in the early couple of years to 12 at its highest. The more I try to reduce the number to under 5, the more I buy. The lowest I have managed to reduce to is 6 (that's not forgetting tne mountain of spares!

Does anyone else have this experience? Has anyone managed to survive with only 1 for more than 2 years?

Please share your story!

I'd say it's possible, but you'll probably replace scooters with something else. Bicycles? Artwork? Baseball cards? How much time are you spending indoors searching for Vespas versus outside riding them? For me, my job gives me too much idle time on my phone searching classifieds versus being distracted. I think that's where I went down the rabbit hole.

Scooters are relatively cheap and parts are still plentiful compared to motorcycles/ cars so it's easy to hmm and haw about buying a Harley, but not batting an eye about picking up 3 Vespas and a box of parts. Razz emoticon I was up to 10 running scooters and am down to 5. If I didn't feel bad about not riding all of them, I'd have kept them.

Do you like to ride or wrench on scooters? Personally, I enjoy the restoration somewhat more than riding them. Riding is fun/cool but the build is therapeutic. If everything is "finished", I am hunting for more....constrained by garage space. If I had more room, I'd have more bikes (cars, boats, snow mobiles, etc.).

I have only one. Lack of space helps.

There was a time when I was in college, where my only motorized transport was an old P. I only had one because it was a necessity at that point.

At this juncture, obviously they are not a necessity but a hobby. I think I have seven-ish? (Mine are in my profile - the ones in capital letters are running, the ones in lower case are not running.)

Can't relate as I never had the time, space or the coin to have more than 2 and 1 of those would be up for sale. It would be nice to have a spare to lend out or have as a backup. I don't have anything now as I am waiting on the green light from the surgeon who did some surgery on me last September. But one will be enough to look after and visit my beautiful Granddaughter.

It's tough to have just one. I have two dirtbikes, two motorcycles and three scooters. I think the minimum is two for me. It's terrible to be working on one and not have the option to jump on and ride. Taking the car doesn't get it done. When I've considered getting rid of one, I can never make up my mind which one would go. A car or truck, no problem. Im way more attached to my twowheeled friends whether they're roadworthy or not.

I bought my smallstate in 92 for $100, my third. Never had less than 3 the most 25. Currently 18. As prices go up, the more likely I am to justify "one" more, if it's a great deal. I look at them as future projects for my retirement, before I'm priced out.
I always have 2 on the bench, and three riders(one of which is in the naughty corner). I think space, other hobbies, and finances dictate more than anything.

I have one, if u don't count the other two I bought.

How do u say no to a handlebar scoot? Of course they never seam to come with all the parts, or a title come to think of it.
¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Can you only have one? Absolutely!

Can I only have one? I tried, but couldn't do it. Razz emoticon

I've got three now. Two runners, and one to work on. Oh, and a 4th that isn't mine, but in my garage....

The six I have are all different with unique characteristics and if something special came along I'd probably buy it. I do have two '65 VBBs but one is completely restored and I rarely ride it (maybe once a season) and I plan on putting it up for sale soon. The other is a patina model mechanically restored with a P pipe and a 20/20 and it's just about my favorite for just riding around.

Only the first bike I got was I actually looking for. The rest all seem to come to me through friends or circumstances. If an S3 came along I might buy it. The TV200 I did (and later sold) was great.

Other than the riding, I just love the process of bringing them back to life and finding out how they feel. The latest was a rust bucket and when I told someone how much welding and patching it required they said, " Why? It's just a VBB." Hell, I have a chance to get back a Stella I sold a few years ago. The guy sort of crashed it and the damage is mainly cosmetic so I may just get it to dismantle and part out. Good motor and fork, etc. Or I may fix it. I have no interest in owning it to ride.

Space is an issue and there are three in the house that I have to finagle through a 27" doorway.

Possible to have only one? sure.

I have found, though, that they seem to want to accumulate to fill the available space (and then some). My main reason for multiples has always been to share and be able to ride together with friends and family who don't own one. Current fleet is four, plus a stray Honda Metropolitan which I am storing for friends and "need to ride" now and again to keep it running.

I can also see how those who enjoy the wrenching aspect would easily accumulate multiples, rehabilitation projects that bring satisfaction upon completion.

Your mileage may vary, as they say.

Cheers,

Bob

This was me for many years, only it was when I was living in downtown Chicago, street parking it and being happy that I never came out in the morning to discover I owned zero scooters.

Now, I seem to consistently own one more than I have room to park, which then leads me to decide I'm going to get rid of a couple, at which point more inevitably seem to show up, as if they sense a warm, dry place to live has come available.

We seem to have a similar stance on pets in my house, too, with the question being, "How many dogs can fit in the bed with us?"

Impossible for me. Even in my reality I'm so glad to have P150X, 50 Special, and PK. To be honest: few PKs - PK 50 S 1984, PK 50 S 1982, PK 50 Nuova... I'm also dreaming about P 125 ETS. And P(X)200. And T5. And TS 125 or maybe Rally...ET3 will be also good addition or even Primavera 125. GS? YES!
