Modern Vespa

Greetings and Happy Sunday Everyone!

After a week of ownership on my new 2024 Vespa GTV 300, I have a couple observations that I would like to ask about in general.

1. She rumbles like crazy!! I had read that Vespas shake and rumble at idle and also when at a light and both brakes engaged, but I wasn't ready for it. It is normal for them to be pretty rumbly right?

2. Is there any way to soften up the suspension? It's at the lowest setting in the back, I am unaware if the front has adjustment. Or is aftermarket shocks all around the answer to this? I find the suspension pretty firm. We have fairly decent roads around me, but there are some bumps and dips that make me question if I just bent a rim. Obviously I try to avoid those, but ya know..

3. Is there any way to fix the inaccuracy of the Speedometer? It's honestly quite annoying that it's displaying anywhere from 3-6mph higher than what I am actually going. It's calculated via the ABS sensor ring isn't it? Are there aftermarket ones that "fix" this? I saw one on ScooterWest but it's for up to '22 GTV, and 13" wheels. So wouldn't work in my case. Anyone come up with a way to deal with this?

Overall I fricken' looooooove this thing!! Need to come up with a name! Hah.

1. vibrating when stationary with rear brake is on is normal.

2. soften? I can't help but wonder if it's too soft and is bottoming out. there's zero front adjust and rear only has preload adjust (not firmness). aftermarket are popular for a reason.

Yep the ABS ring will make the speedo accurate and give you a few more MPH of top speed, I guess the suspension feel depends on your weight, I have stock on my 2022 GTS and don't find it firm at all and I cranked up the preload in the rear, but yes the front will bottom out on a nasty bump/pot hole.

I'll second the Bitubo on the front. I have two '18 GTS one with stock and one with Bitubo on the front and the Bitubo experience is superior

What about Malossi shocks? The RS24 kit on ScooterWest would look nice with the white spring on a black Vespa.

I guess I may be judging the suspension a little too harshly as I'm so used to the feel of a full sized motorcycle and forgot how a smaller bike like a scooter would feel. Over the last week or so I've warmed up to it. I'll have time this weekend to adjust the back shocks and see how they feel.

As for the ABS ring, looks like it won't fit the '24 GTV. So I'm gonna have to just do math while I ride I guess. lol

I had the Malossi RS24 front and back on a previous GTS and liked them quite a bit (they're made by Paoli). The quality is actually quite good.

I'm leaning toward YSS for my current GTS. I had a YSS rear shock on my SMax that had adjustment for preload and dampening. I was able to really dial in what I needed to get the most out of the scoot. And they're cheaper than Bitubo.

SIP in Germany has a lot of options and tends to be cheaper than most places - even with shipping costs.
