I've got a two port Super with oil injection. I have both the p style and the older vbb/super crank installation tool. Neither seem to be the answer with this design. How best to install the crank and bearings? Thanks in advance.

There is a specialized tool which sits on the lip around the seal with cutouts for the bolts and primary gear and then lets you use your normal crank puller.

I've also used a piece of u-channel with a hole drilled in it to support my crank puller. This is a great time to decide if you want to spend money and wait or get creative and have your motor buttoned up today.

Hey Grumpnut, you're on the right track. I've done it with, and without, a crank puller on my 3-port soop, similar bearing set up.

The key is heating up the case.

You can improvise a puller backing plate from a piece of wood or scrap metal. Anything rigid with a hole through it will work. See pic. Primitive but works.

If you don't have a puller it can also be carefully tapped in.

Since you're in Chico, here's a total hack tip. Set the case out in sun in the hottest part of your yard with the sun blazing down on it. In half an hour will get so hot you won't be able to pick it up without gloves. Use a torch to keep it hot while you're installing.

I'm not a fan of putting the crank in the freezer. Instead hit the bearing with a blast of icy cold Dust Spray.

If your wife is out of town, you can also set your oven to 325 and stick the cases in there for half an hour or so.

It might not smell real great, but the bearings just fall in place.

"Hon, I don't know what you put in that mac and cheese, but when I tried to reheat it in the oven, it smelled like Castrol!"

Rebuilding in the spare bedroom as it is a 100 outside. Map gas torch, laser thermometer and a frozen crank.

How'd you ultimately solve your crank puller bracing challenge?

I've had my VBB apart more times than I can remember so this was a bit anti climactic. I have never seen the tool you mentioned Chandler. The clutch side bearing fell right in and I used the proper puller to close up the other side.

Install the Parmakit next and then PRESSURE TEST!
