Hello All...

My wife bought a 2003 Vespa ET2 50cc scooter that had been sitting for a while. We are in the process of resurrecting her so my wife can ride it..

We purchased a Malossi PHBG19MM carb from Scooterwest but there are virtually no instructions on how to install this thing. I think it would be good to know what hose goes where and other items to consider. I am hoping we didn't waste her money on this carb.. Is there a complete installation guide/instructions some where out there?

I removed the carb that came with the scooter but there are absolutely no markings on the carb to tell me what it is! If I decide not to use the Malossi, I will probably need to rebuild the existing carb. But since I can't tell what it is I have no clue what rebuild kit/parts to order...

I am a newbie to this scooter, so any help is appreciated!

Does the carb come with a Malossi part number? That would help figuring out what you have.

Like most Italian scooter parts producers, Malossi figures that you were either conceived on a scooter and grew up around them for your entire life, or have a neighbor who did, that you can ask.
That's why the directions for a lot of cylinder kits include the phrase, "remove engine." It is assumed you will have considerable experience doing that if you are within ten years of being old enough to legally ride a scooter in Italy, and won't need much more detail than that.

19mm is too big if you're running the 50cc cylinder kit.

If you have a Weber carb, you won't be able to buy parts. But you can buy a DellOrto that is basically plug and play. Piaggio 82666R, about $150.

If the scooter is stock, don't replace the carb, just clean it. The carburetor will have either been made by Weber or Dellorto.

Thank you so much for the responses... It was recommended that we swap the carburetor for a Malossi for better performance... The Malossi carb we purchased shows PBHG19 with the number 60 after that.. I am assuming the 19 stands for 19mm.. It would be a bit disappointing if it is not appropriate for an ET2.. The listing indicated it was applicable to an ET2...

Before posting the question about installation I did quite a bit of searching on the net for install instructions, with out any great results. In honesty, I did not search this site specifically for the install instructions.

I have attached a picture of the as-found carb.

It appears the scooter probably came with an automatic choke which was replaced by a manual one. The automatic choke was sitting in the engine area.. I am assuming the black lever seen at the top of carb is a manual choke.

If I clean the as-found carb and try it out, I need to make sure I hook the vacuum, fuel, and oil lines correctly. So three questions:

1. Can anyone tell what make/model carb this is?
2. The brass nozzle pointing towards 10 o'clock in the picture, is for the
oil line, correct?
3. Should I attempt to install the automatic choke, or remove from the
scooter? (note: my wife will be the driver of this thing)...

Thank you again ...

Mike
