Modern Vespa

My Primavera 50cc is playing dead. The battery is fully charged and the tank's full. Yet when I turn the key the only thing that comes on are the lights. The engine doesn't even try to turn over. It's like it has become a large expensive floor lamp.

Does anyone have any ideas what the problem might be? If so, I'd really appreciate help learning what's wrong.

It will help if you get an inexpensive (~$10-$20) multimeter (DMM) to test the battery voltage and fuses. In step 1) you can check the brake switches by seeing if the brake light comes on when you squeeze either brake lever.

Which lights?

Please test /answer the following points:

1. kill switch in "run" position?
2. can you hear the fuel pump whirring when you switch on the ignition?
3. do the brake lights come on when you pull the brake levers?
4. have you checked the fuses with a multimeter or a test lamp? (A visual check is not enough!) -> Main fuse in battery compartment should be ok, so check fuses in glovebox.
5. Is a possibly retrofitted side stand folded in?

Thanks for the suggestions. The kill switch was the first thing I checked. All lights including the brakes come on. I think checking the fuses may be the ticket.
