Modern Vespa

About two years ago, I bought a new electric scooter from Yamaha. It's a 50cc class small thing and I'm happy with the quality, especially compared to the NIU NQ thing I've had for a summer.

But spare parts for battery electric scooters can be costly. An extra battery, good for 25 km range? €1300. A mains charger? €250.

Now I've had an email from Yamaha reminding me that my two-year warranty will expire in eight weeks, so I had better make an appointment for a check-up while the bike is still under warranty.

Can you imagine such an email from Piaggio?

No, not that…

…But Vespa, Piaggio and Aprilia have extended the warranty from 2 to 4 years in many (all?) European markets for all scooters (and MP3s) with combustion engines with a purchase date from 19.05.2025...

To be precise, it is now a 2+1+1 year warranty:

Two years manufacturer's warranty (as before)
+ 1 year if all services in the first two years have been carried out on time/mileage at an authorized dealer.
+ 1 year if all services in the third year have also been carried out on time/mileage at an authorized dealer.

Note: The conditions for the 3rd and 4th year differ from the 2-year manufacturer's warranty, there are some exclusions.

I think that's not a bad move either.

For the first time, a warranty extension is also available for 50cc scooters.

The chargeable warranty extension can still be purchased (e.g. to extend the full manufacturer's warranty or for vehicles with an electric motor).

Don't you just love the way that the Japanese do things ?
