I'm kidding of course, but it is a total suck-fest of a project. It took me about 5 hours total, although I was addressing other issues as well (squeaky rear brake, spark plug replacement, and replacing the rear axle nut). My hands and forearms are scraped and cut in multiple places. Some children in my neighborhood likely learned some new words as they escaped my garage.
I removed the exhaust, bracket, rear shock on exhaust side, and the rear wheel. There are 3 bolts holding the tank, including one behind the brake light and 2 others in the engine bay on the exhaust side. You also need to remove the rear indicators as they interfere with the tank. It was still quite a wrestling match to drop the tank. You need to disconnect the fuel lines and electrical connections from the top of the fuel pump and fuel sender unit before fully extracting the tank.
The fuel line connectors at the top of the fuel pump can be very difficult to remove; I had to use needle nose vice grips to squeeze the clips and pull the connector elbow out.
Reinstall of the the tank was yet another wrestling match, but once properly aligned, I was able to get the bolts reinstalled. Quick note, I also had to replace the 10amp fuse on the airbox side near the large block relay; it blew when the old fuel pump seized.
