Yeah I know I've read a bunch of the 10,000 or so threads on this, so give me an assist.

Real quick:

Is there an aftermarket side stand kit that will fit the GTS250 and stays locked in the down position without automatic retraction?

I know the later GTS300s had normal side stands that will stay down, so that's the 2nd part of the question: will a stay-down GTS300 ('23+) side stand work on an old GTS250?

If the answer to both of those questions is "no," then does anyone have a quick ref to the info about how to modify the stock side stand so it'll stay down when the weight is taken off? I have seen some talk about grinding on the side stand pivot stop so it goes further forward, but with no pictures or precise info (take this much off etc.). ISTR sometime in history someone posted about relocating the spring spur on one or more of the springs, maybe adding a spring spur? Before I order a stock side stand, I want a solid plan on how to make it work.

Oh and for those of you with "the stock stand works fine" or "just use the center stand," don't bother. I do just use the center stand and I won't use a stock side stand unless it can be modified to work without the auto-return "feature." I have 6 other motorbikes here, I need the GTS to work the same way as the rest.

fyi, the stand on my 2019 stays down.

The side stand that came with wouldn't stay down on the 2013 300 I bought from Bob, so I did this: My 2 cents on Vespa's asinine retractable sidestand

OK, I suppose it also has a side stand switch, so it shuts off the engine when the side stand is down? IDK the year they changed them, but I guess what I'm getting at is whether the side stand itself will fit on my 2008, and if it will, then will it function the same as it does on a 2019. In other words, is the change on the scooter frame, or the side stand, even if the later stand will even fit.

The answer to both questions is no.

Vespa relocated the spring post on the body to the other side of the pivot on later models.

Fix is intuitive, spring post on one side of pivot, stand retracts. other side stand stays down. Lots of pics of different execution on various threads on here.

This is what I did to my 2007 GT(V) some years ago, think I had to drill the hole and used a bolt with a nut either side with the thread showing. I must have tried the existing hole lower down but presumably it didn't work. The spring rubs on the pivot bolt but you can't have everything. It has caught me out once or twice, fortunately before I left the driveway 😯

I'm certain I can come up with an elegant solution. I may cut/grind off the original post so it doesn't interfere with the spring. I'll order a side stand kit and see how it goes.
