There's gotta be something better than a cotter pin to hold this on.

Never gave it much thought before, but giving the Yellow Beast some love and de-rattlization.

Skinny bolt? What all do you use here?

I'd lean towards some sort of clevis pin, unless you can find a bolt with a long shoulder. Wouldn't want the threads gouging away the hinge from the inside.

Maybe use a C- or E-clip on the end of the pin to keep things tidy

get a bit of metal rod and then just bend it over on both sides? That's basically what the Lammy glovebox hinge pin is.

Parts book shows a split pin but I can't find one that takes up the slack. The right diameter metal rod or framing nail might actually work better.

They're expanding their range it seems!

Honestly though it does work better than the split pin, so I left it in there.

I used threaded rod with a nyloc on each end. Can put a bit of tension on it.

I hate rattles. I put a strip of this small silicone seal around the inside edge of the door. Maybe just along the bottom to put a bit of tension on the hinge.

I just fitted the same gasket on the VNB

External inline image provided by member with no explanatory text

Because I don't want to use a cotter pin, I use some 4mm diameter stainless steel pipe and some mushroom ends to hold the toolbox door. I cut the pipe to length and use a drop of 2 part epoxy to fit the end, then slide it and glue the other end. Looks more OEM and OEM+ if you add a nylon washer to protect the paint from vibrations

External inline image provided by member with no explanatory text

Finish looks on point imo and no rattle at all as the original pin was also 4mm diameter. Rattles are due to the fact that the cotter pin allows movements from the cover

External inline image provided by member with no explanatory text

I did the same on the fuel tank, using 3mm diameter stainless steel pipe

That's some outstanding work there, Colin.

I suspect more than one of us will be copying that.

This is self adhesive foam, I cut strips and applied to the brackets to protect the fresh paint
