Hi, I have recently purchased a tidy ex-italian import 150 super on a 1974 plate here in the UK, engine and frame showing VBC.
There is no rust on her what so ever so couldn't resist having a decent project.
The 8" rims have been replaces with 10" (bonus) but as you can imagine she is struggling to move herself and wouldn't pull the sheets off your bed in the morning.
As a result I believe technically the super standard ratios with the 10" rims, it should be now very similar to a standard p200 .
Because of the lack of zip in her I have purchased a pinasco 177 kit and polini pipe alongside a dellorto 24/24 (premix) carb to help her along.
I do realise that Iay have to modify the intake as the super had a 10/15 as standard and will now have 24/24 barrels on it.

Does anybody know what jetting is best ?not really going to be wringing it's neck, but would like some top end..also I've been advised to alter the timing to 18© is this true ?
Regarding the primary gear, I've been told 23/65 teeth should be ok ? Does anybody have knowledge on this? And what clutch gearing should I be looking at also to balance things out ? It has primary gear protector plates also fitted to the hubs.
Any advice on this would be greatful as I haven't worked on a vespa this old, had px back in the late 80's and decided to re-kndle my youth,
Also if anybody could recommend anything else I may need or have to do that would be brilliant..
Thanks all

Hi Lee, welcome to the forum. Great that you found a scoot to fiddle with. You're in for a lot of fun.

First question is how committed are you to the 10" rims? For a lot of us, they're not necessarily a "bonus". Unless the gears have already been changed, you might consider going back to the 8's the Super was made for. As many here will attest, a well set up scoot on 8's is a nimble and quick ride. You'll have less hassle kitting it and no trouble keeping up with others once you do.

I second the 8"res. They're a blast.

My Pinasco VNB hits over 60mph easily. 20.20 carb and a 24.24 air filter, with VAPE ignition and SIP Road 2.0 exhaust. Nothing else done to it. I may have match the carb to the carb box but that's it.

I think the 10's are a bonus.

I would start with P200 jetting, close enough for the Pinasco 177. Gearing as you say is pretty close with 10's to the P200 as well so you may not need to do anything there. You'll certainly want a better clutch than stock.

Wait minute there … the gearing on a Super with 10" rims isn't anywhere close to a standard P200's gearing.

Super's ratio's are completely different from the P's. It won't feel anything like a P without major transmission changes.

Hi thank you for all of your replies, much appreciated.
The 10" wheels make a massive difference to the final drive as the circumstance and rotation is greatly increased this in turn will lower the final drive from the primary drive as this is lowered to in theory .
The 8" super wheels travel less distance through one rotation than the 10" but will complete it's rotation quicker than the 10" if you think about it 🤔
The other benefit of the 10" rim is obviously the brakes, as the hub is larger taking the bigger shoes than the standard super on 8" rims , the ride is nicer with the 10 " and width from 3.00 to 3.50 I believe this can also lower ratios but as yet I can't work out how ? I think I will also have to take the timing down from 22 standard super to around 17/18 degrees to avoid melting a hole in the top of the piston.
Any advice on fine jetting the carburettor would be appreciated but I think a rolling road is probably needed to make sure it's jetted right, anybody know good place to take it around north west area ?
Thanks 🙏

For a while I ran a 187 Super with 10" wheels. I went for a PX125 (EFL) gearbox (68 primary), a 23 tooth clutch, a BGM 177 and a 60mm crank with a PX flywheel side taper. This meant I could use a PX (Ducati) electronic ignition. It was fun but really needed a P2 primary and clutch (65/23) to get better top end.

PX125 gearboxes are stronger and quite easy to get hold of.

8"!

Do you have PHOTOS of the brake setup, as it sounds odd.

Not sure what this is. Pic would be helpful.
