We won one of the Target ET2 scooters, lo those many years ago. Loved riding it around town, and used it to commute in warm weather. Didn't have many miles on it. I was considering one of the cylinder upgrade kits, to give it a bit more power, but hadn't progressed on that. One day, it broke off the entire exhaust pipe, leaving the bottom of the bolts in the cylinder head. We put it away in the garage, and it's been ignored in there for at least 10 years, probably more.

Now, I want to have a mechanic in Cincinnati/Dayton, Ohio bring this scooter back to life, and I'm thinking I'll let him go ahead and complete the Cylinder upgrade kit. So we'll replace the Cylinder head(and related), the exhaust pipe, the tires(old and dried out at this point), flush the fuel system, and check out everything else- brakes, lubrication anywhere that can be accessed, etc.

First, am I missing anything in this plan? Is there anything I might not have thought of that I need to make sure he does?

Secondly, anybody have experience with these cylinder kits, so you can recommend a particular one I should use? I'm looking for reliability, not absolute highest power. I'd like to get this done, then have this run for along time without any problems.

If you've had any experience with this kind of project- cylinder upgrade, bringing back a 2-stroke that sat for a while, etc. - I'd love anything that you learned along the way.

Thanks for any help you can provide.

I thought I heard something about the 2-stroke oil pump being belt driven, and most BBK kit installers go pre-mix afterwards? Im sure someone else with more knowledge will chime in. Please post a picture as I barely remember those!

Thanks for the great responses- very helpful. This was my first post here, and I was excited to find the site. I wasn't sure if I'd get any responses- but the responses so far are quite helpful, so thank you both.

The references to the parts themselves will be pretty great. The mechanic told me that he wanted me to pick out the parts and have them, then we'll set up the appointment to install them. He seems to be a one-man shop, and has quite a few people who suggested he was the guy to go to. I imagine I'll just order the ones that you referred me to- have you used those specific parts yourself? How'd they turn out for your use?

As far as the oil pump- interesting. I hadn't realized that might be a thing to worry about.

Anyway, thanks to everyone for all the help so far. Let me know if any other thoughts come up- it's going to be another month or so before I can get it into the mechanic, so lots of time to adjust the plan further.
