Modern Vespa

Pull the new cables, put in the new shocks and I'm done with my P125x with P200 stock motor. I want that 1980s look. I've taken off the chrome mirror and replaced it with a black square one. All black trim. I was thinking a T5 seat but I would need one without the "T5" on it. The sharp blocky wedge of it would work great. Where do you think I can get that? What else? Some sort of rainbow stripes? I'm also going to be putting black rubber leg shield trim. Attached is a photo of the scooter before I purchased it. I've also got a cowl on the other side that is pretty rusted up. What is your opinion repainting the cowls only the original one stage? paint. How bad would that look?

The T5 seat is longer, will not fit the frame. Square mirrors are nice and I think they look better. Matching the color will be difficult since the rest has definitely faded over the years. I would first polish, recondition the rest and then try to match the cowls…

In that case maybe a super corsa seat. Thanks for letting me know, that would be an expensive mistake!

Has anyone cut down a T5 tray for an older p glove box? Scooterwest mentions it on their store site. Seems like more than one person has done it then. Repainting a newer globebox to match seems unnecessarily expensive and I have OG paint red 1979 p125x. I don't know if I like the idea of a black newer glovebox. It starts hitting ratrod territory. I've blacked out everything else though. Kickstand, leg shield trim, shocks, fork arm cover, mirror.
Super corsa seat as well. Even swapped the bag hook for a black plastic one.

I didn't fit it, but my 1978 P125X has the tray fitted to the top of the glove box. Can't say I looked at it very hard as it just looked right, but it must not have been too bad to cut down if it is what you are talking about. I can post some close up photos of it if you would like.

I don't want it to be a bother but yes, I would really appreciate it. Trim the bottom of the tray, shorten the sides, or both? Also I think yours is almost exactly what I'm going for!

No bother at all. It's dark here, and my shed doesn't have the best lighting right now, so I will grab some pics tomorrow when I have some better light. I'm hoping to be out there doing something fun anyway!

Here are some photos of the tray installed on the bike and on my workbench. I'm glad to have pulled it off as the install wasn't the greatest. I don't think that anything was cut down on my tray.

Interesting... thank you. Mine is obviously an off brand for $15. I still hate to ruin it. It doesn't fit well as is though.

Looking at mine, I think the outer mounting points work just fine but need proper sized fasteners. Someone went one size too big and split the plastic. I plan to add rivnuts to make installing/uninstalling easier. Are the inner holes just meant to be drain holes?

Those trays came with the T5 and were designed for the later, bigger PX glovebox. They need a bit of trimming to fit the earlier P gloveboxes. On the glovebox there are two square holes where you install two plastic pegs for the screws…

SaFiS, is the difference in the glove boxes that the bigger PX style boxes are deeper front to back? Just curious...I'm sticking with what I have since the holes have been drilled but figured I would ask to better understand the difference.

They are larger in all aspects plus extend to higher up the legshield

Ahh i finally know why all those T5 wannabe here never able to put that tray to sit nicely, it was never meant for those glovebox
