Is it overkill to do an oil change every 12 months / 6,000 miles?

What about a flush for the radiator coolant and front/back brakes?

Not overkill to do an oil change every 6,000 miles - but if you only do say 1,000 miles in 12 months I'd not bother until two years are up. However if the oil looks very dirty change it at any time!

IMO less than 2 years is overkill on these.

I'd suggest changing brake fluid every 2-3 years. It's hydrophyllic and moisture can get into the system. Check the reservoir sight glasses. Fresh fluid looks like champagne, perished fluid looks like Coca Cola.

Coolant should be replaced every two years as well. Harder to gauge wear, but if the stuff in the coolant bottle is reddish-brown, change it ASAP.

That depends on its colour in the first place! The colour does not denote the coolant type.

So this is the color of the oil, looks fine to me.

Still looks good to me as well.

I like the new sightglass window, but I wish they'd kept the access cover.

As for the engine oil, that is remarkably clean.

My last oil change was December 2023 and I only rode exactly 500 miles since then, Lol, I guess I'll wait it out.

2035 will be your oil change year...

different brands are different colours so just looking at the colour is not a great way to determine the health. although it does seem the older the darker and that ain't light to my eye.

Lol, I don't think the manual would agree, they say 12/24 months.

And if by some chance you didn't ride during that time would you still do that change? Does oil come with a "Use by" label on the container?

Don't forget, the schedule is aimed at the dealers...

I'm in the camp of changing oil every 12 months OR 3000 US miles. It's easy to do and doesn't cost much. Also the medium in the filter doesn't last forever so annual changing is a good, logical choice.
