77 Sprint 150 Veloce with PX crank and flywheel 12v
Good morning all,
Well the engine is back together after a full internal refurb.
I am currently doing the ignition set up and f*** me what a pain in the arse it is.
Engine timing is completed using degree wheel etc, all looks good.
Now comes the stator.
Gawd what a nightmare. It has been attacked and I'm trying to figure it out without much success, hence my call for help.
I am a bit of a dickhead when it comes to electrics so bear with me.
Now to business.
The stator has been previously reconfigured by cutting, re-soldering and bypassing some coil wires. It is a stator with points
The stator has only one wire coming out and when free of the casing splits into two, one to the coil and one to battery. From the battery it hit a relay of some sort, then some fuses and then off on its merry way to different components.
My question is am I better off turfing the stator ( which I am leaning towards) and getting a new electronic one and how can I set it up with my existing one wire supply set up.
Any help is appreciated

Wow. That is just plain bizarre. Or extremely creative?

Also...the "4" on the batwing is actually "1"

There is one core pole that has no coil mounted on it but there wouldn't be room for the condenser.

When you think about it, cars essentially run off one wire that links the alternator and the battery.

Missing a coil. This stator was common on European P125s & P150s. Points and 12V, really great system and very reliable...

Nothing gets past all your eagle eyes. The 4 is definitely a 1. I wrote it on the wrong end. Thanks.

So any opinions on getting a p150s stator as shown, running the wires into a regulator of some sort and just using the power wire outlet to link up to my existing set up.

Sure. Just configure the harness to work like the 150s. Green/AC/Ignition, Blue/DC/Everything else. No?

Okay,
So I ended up buying a top shelf PX/LML 150 12v electronic ignition kit ( from India as this a what my budget allows at the moment) and installed the stator, flywheel and coil/cdi. I will probably change the wiring loom on the scooter to suit once I get the engine sorted and running.
I am looking at doing a bench test and was wondering if I have the correct wiring set up for this as I cant get spark at the plug. I've got 50v out of the green wire when flywheel driven with cordless drill. The HT lead has continuity through to the plug cap. I can only assume that I have it hooked up incorrectly or the coil is a dud. As stated previously I am quite incompetent with electrics a please bear with me.
Any input is appreciated.
Cheers

I guess you could start here - Stator Values Wiki

Not sure how to test a CDI though.

I feel that the CDI unit is bad. My good friend Mr Patel in India is sending me a replacement so I will see how that goes. I will more than likely get a good brand when possible and move onwards. Cheers all.

I forgot to ask. Is it better to remove the yellow varnish off of the stator coil faces and internal dia of the flywheel magnetic face

The magnetism will still work through varnish. But do think of Mr Patel's wonderful products as an opportunity to give yourself some time to save up for a good ignition. Hopefully before it gives up. I had a few of those early on and they were transitional (transitioned from working to not working).
