Modern Vespa

Hi ,
I am a new member - an Englishman living in Portugal with a 2008 250 GTS.i.e ABS.

Unfortunately my Lovely Vespa recently conked out on me and I rolled to a stop. I tried restarting it and the fan and dash lights came on but nothing else. At the same time a small cloud of smoke came up from the right, down near the exhaust. I was puzzled what it was but instinctively shut everything off.

It turns out it was the wiring loom burning itself out to the point it is now useless and not repairable. I may have been lucky it didnt all catch fire.

Anyhow my local Vespa dealer tells me that Vespa dont make this part anymore and he has tried a variety of contacts to try to source a second hand part from a donor bike or maybe even a reconditioned loom. He tells me that as it is an ABS version it will be more difficult to find but the part number is 639067 to 639914 and the chassis number is ZAPM4510100006498

Unless I can find a donor bike or a reconditioned loom I will have a Lovely but useless Vespa I have scoured the net and tried a number of parts suppliers but have had no luck so far.

So people if anyone out there knows of a donor bike or a parts outfit that may have one i'd be very happy if you could contact me

I suggested to Bill to post here as well as in the Wanted section, as then he can get helpful replies! I hope one of the cognescenti here can check the part numbers that'll work, as well as any pointers to sources.

Hey, thanks for that - i have already sent an email.to SIP asking if they have or can obtain a Loom and I'm waiting on their reply.

I have never seen "wires" that can not be replaced.

Connectors can be a bear however.

Specialty vendors can set one up for just about anything ....... Sometimes both ends need to be replaced for an alternate connector.

Not fun, but better than an abandoned scooter.

Thanks for that, my Vespa garage are basically saying it would be a mammoth task and not economically viable.

Oh it would have to be a DIY project, for sure. It's not that bad to do, it'd just take a lot of time! The scoot's worth what, $2000 max? It'd be a full day's work to do the replacement, *if* you can get hold of a loom. The labour cost would be horrific. But DIY, and make it a couple of weeks project, and you'd gain total knowledge of the layout of your trusty steed.

I hope you found out what caused the burn-up...
