I have been working on my T5 project for a while. I have the chassis painted and assembled and am almost ready to dive into the motor.

This past week, I established that my T5 cases are not suitable to use.See my previous post. I have decided against rolling the dice to see if they would work and figured I would spend my money more wisely on a set of p series cases for the T5 engine. I am now on a hunt to purchase something that is workable. Anyone holding? hahaha

Now my question here is:

Can i use parts of the T5 engine in a p series engine case or if worse comes to worse, an OEM/LML engine case?

I was thinking of using the:
T5 gear stack
T5 primary
T5 clutch (potentially upgeared)
T5 stator (connected to original loom)
T5 Flywheel
T5 Carb (could swap to a standard 24/24 carb if need be)

I would naturally have to buy:
Suitable bearings and seals gaskets and crank
A top end (thinking malossi or pinasco)
and an exhaust (SR3?)

Thoughts? Can I make this work? Or do I shelf the T5 components?

Your experience and suggestions are valued and appreciated.

Cheers.

All gearing and clutch are same as PX so they basically work on any cases. Flywheel and stator are unique to the T5, they don't work.

Thank you Safis. If anyone knows the response to my question re: the T5, it would be you.

So next question is, can I retrofit a px stator to
The original T5 loom? If so, what modifications are required?

I salvaged the loom to be able to accommodate the speedo and headset etc.

Blue - Black, 5 wires stator is a direct fit to the T5 loom and electrics (battery or not)…

You'd be hard pressed to find T5 cases in North America. The next best option would be P200 cases. Like Safis said, the stator and flywheel are T5 specific. If i was building a stock 200 oiler engine, i'd reuse (as long as your whole gear stack is damage free) 1st though 4th loose gears, switch out the 68t T5 primary for a 65T, and swap out the T5 clutch cog for a 23T. I'd also swap out the T5's 24/24G carb for a P2 24/24E. If your T5 has an electric starter, i'd push hard for finding 200 EFL cases so that you can retain it. I also like the axle seal design that the EFL cases have as well. Of course you'll need a P200 crank, plastic cylinder shroud, piston/cylinder/head, PX stator and flywheel, exhaust, and NOT a pinasco top end.

If you have to buy a new stator and flywheel, then i'd lean towards investing in a VAPE kit. Molassi engine cases would also be super cool. All them fancy parts add up fast though. Even when buying a used P200 engine, i usually account in spending close to an additional $1000 on just replacing worn out or damaged parts.

You got pics of the damaged T5 engine?

You're right. Things do add up quickly.

Im leaning towards just a plug and play engine into the chassis. So investigating a oem px150 engine case. A friend of mine has an engine case from a px125efl howveer the status if them is to be questioned.

Not a pinasco? How come?

Was thinking of a 22 gear clutch cog as well with the stock primary and gear stack.

Great input. Food for thought. Thank you.

from first hand experience, i found that malossi was more reliable and durable than pinasco

The Malossi cases are supreme. Very well made. Easy to assemble. It's a no brainer. You can build it any way you want. Do the math. It's not much more in price but you get sooo much more in quality. Of course, if you run across an unmolested set of Piaggio cases, go for that. We both know that won't be the case. I stand by the Malossi. My 2c.

Shame your not in the UK

I could have hooked you up with a set of unmolested cases.... actually hang on a moment, I saw a pair of matching unmolested cases on Ebay for a reasonable price. The seller will send to US if you contact him

https://ebay.us/m/YGq9v5

He can even machine them to accept a 200 spigot if you ask him also.

Full disclosure - im not affiliated to the seller but.ik sharing what I enquired of them in terms of machining

Above cases are Spanish PX125, not T5. Stator side is machined from Spanish Femsa type to accommodate a Ducati stator. IMHO, you can definitely find better cases than those. If you're looking for the full T5 experience you can always get the Pinasco T5 cases, slap a Malossi 172 on it and you're golden…

Agreed, but they are unmolested where it counts.. add to that the SIP 125cc aluminium barrel and its a *very* T5 like experience 😀
