Modern Vespa

Hello new here! I'm looking to buy a 56 piaggio ape but before I do I have a quick question. The guy says it's missing all the glass. How hard is it to get your hands on that or parts in general in the us. I do go to Italy every couple years with family still living there. But just curious if there is somewhere or someone who has parts for these things. Any help is appreciated Thank you

I asked a couple of buddies who have experience with these things, and they say that you'll need luck, perseverance, and likely a wad of cash to get replacement glass for a 56 Ape.

Yikes. Okay. The guy wants 5k for this thing the motor is out of it but everything else besides that and the glass seems fine. Anyone have an opinion on if this is worth it? He originally was asking 14k but obviously was too high and couldn't sell it

i've seen it posted for sale online. yes, worth more than he is asking. Do you have the time, money, and skillset to finish? It's unfortunate it's missing parts and taken apart-that is the greatest issue here.

Its the curved corner pieces that a b**** to find.

Looks like a later model may have the same curve and those sections could be cut from that? Probably would be a known solution.

side story... I heard of a guy who wanted to replaced a windshield for a '60s Saab so he took his to some big windshield warehouse and laid it on anything that looked close and actually found one with the same curve that he could cut the smaller Saab shape out of. I wish I could remember the model of the car. It's probably so old now that it would also be hard to find.

I am pretty good with cars and bikes. Grew up working on alittle bit of everything I cant imagine these are terribly complex. I have a few projects so I'm basically always in the shop messing with stuff. This would really be a gift for my wife who is from Sicily and wanted one for a long time. I just wanna make sure it's worth it

Most glass can often be reproduced in perspex or similar. Unless that's a no from a vehicle registration point of view, might be worth checking out? Still would be pricey but better than not available I guess.

Guy in germany named soren has them. Youll find him on facebook. Not much money and it's 3 piece. Two side curves are plexiglass and center is tempered glass that you can get at any glass shop.

I've recently bought a 1961 Ape for restoration. Was also already dismantled but is fortunately 100% complete with all parts including engine and glass present. The windshield is a curved one-piece glass and is very thick. The seller said to treat it like a precious delicate rarity because finding another and figuring out how to get one shipped from anywhere would be a nightmare. So its wrapped in many layers of foam and stored in a remote part of my loft until restoration time.

Do you have a picture of the type of glass your unit is using?, we may have for newer units, but don't know how different they are
