Based on the photos and the following...

- no title
- no keys
- unknown mileage (I haven't asked yet)

...what value would this have to you?
...what options are there to re-keying and how costly?
...I know the latch trick to open the seat on a GTS, is it the same on an LX?
...is there a way to open the top box without a key?

I've gotten bonded titles before, so not really concerned about that, its just a process. This looks like a beauty and is worth saving, but could be more of a project given above. Appreciate it.

It's a 150.

New ECU and new key set would be required, unless someone has a way to flash the EFI Technology ECUs.

It should be a carburetor model. Wouldn't they just need to get a new CDI and lock/key set?

although a cdi and ecu are different it's still pretty much the same issue. either gotta replace it or reprogram the keys in it. in both cases the reprogramming maybe the cheapest unless there is an aftermarket cdi that fits

It is getting a bit hard to sell any sort of PTW in my area at the present and with winter not too far off, I don't think it will get any better. As to price, a LX150 would sell for $1500 around here with a good title and in running condition. I don't know what a bonded title would run, but that and parts cost would need to come off the price. I won't offer more than $800. YMMV

This morning when I read this I was thinking $500.

Aside from the title and the key issue, when was the last time it was registered? Who knows when the last time it ran, or if other mechanical issues contributed to its current status.

I wouldn't pay more than $500 either. It just wouldn't be worth the hassle of paying more than that.

Upon further reflection, I think that is a better number. The scoot is going to be enough of a project as it is and with the forks in the locked position, it won't so easy to transport.

This model of LX 150 does not have a latch cable for the seat, the lock/latch is directly controlled by the key/tumblers in the seat. Same for the top case.

You will need to drill out all three locks and replace them. As others have mentioned, you will have to change the ECU and match it to a master key in order to solve the immobilizer issue.

This bike is only worth something to someone who knows a lot about these sorts of issues and knows how to solve them. To the average person, this bike is worth only salvage/parts - about $500.

I once purchased a CDI off AliExpress for a carbureted LX. It was inexpensive and worked fine while I used it (other than immobilizer no longer worked, of course). Might be an option here.

Appreciate the great feedback. Transporting/moving a scooter with a locked steering column is not great. Having to drill out all the key cylinders is not great. Replacing the CDI and getting a bonded title is not great. Overall, everything is doable, but I'm feeling a bit put out at how not great its turning out to be. They're asking $600, so not bad in that respect at least.

Get a non-immobiliser CDI.

The S* model didn't include an immobliser.

* It's often incorrectly assumed that the S stood for sport, whereas in fact it was for stealable.

Parts for the older modern Vespas are getting hard to find.

The engine alone is probably worth over $500 for someone needing one.

I would pay $200 for the exhaust if it was a GT.

Body parts and wheels could bring several hundred more dollars.

Well, just learned scoot is sold after reaching out yesterday but not hearing back. Then just saw that the ad was disappeared, so no go.
