Hello, I'm a new rider/enthusiast who came into possesion of a modified '09 Stella at the beginning of this year. My 20 year old brain is now enfatuated with the prospect of Vespa tuning but I need some guidance from more seasoned enthusiasts.

This summer I decided to pull the old Stella out of my family's garage and revive it as it had not run since pre-covid times. My dad bought it already modified about a decade ago and didn't know what exactly it had done aside from the exhaust. It ran beautifully all season and I worked out a couple kinks here and there to keep it running reliably. I dumped the bike once, and I blew the engine a few weeks ago after ragging on it all summer. I have since torn the engine down completely and I'm prepping to rebuild.

When I pulled the cylinder head I was supprised to see the malossi name as I was under the impression this was a stock motor internally. after measuring the shredded piston it is roughly 60mm (2.39in.) in diameter. Is this a stock sounding piston? I believe it was a stock crank as well. It was able to reach 65mph WOT and even 70mph on a slight downhill for reference. Just looking for some kind of idea of what may have been in it.

I need some help verifying some kind of parts list. I am currently looking at some kind of big bore kit(leaning towards the malossi 177 kit), a new crank not sure if I need anything bigger than the stock 57mm, and then whatever bearings and seals are recommended to be replaced. Obviously it will need to be rejetted and I'm also looking for suggestions there as well. Is this all I will need to do a semi-reliable rebuild? What changes would you make in the shoes of a college student with a limited disposable income?

Stock 150 has a 57.8mm bore. Old Malossi 166 has a 61mm bore. New Malossi 177 has a 63mm bore. The 166 was a very popular kit back in the day and yours probably is one of those.

Would like to offer more but HEIC files are more trouble than they're worth on Windows.

well, lots of options, but look at BGM 177 or VMC 177; those are my 2 picks.

here is what i do-

-go to a single pedal reed setup, then add a 24.24e carb.
-change primary to 65. that allows you to run 22 or 23 clutch cog.
-add a Polini Box exhaust.

VMC Super G is a cast iron kit and an incredible value. Built one for a friend and it's been awesome.
Take Mr. Gick's advice and mod the gearing while you're at it.

That Definitely Sounds like a doable setup, what's your preferred parts source?
