In the cold wet murky dirty UK winter, I thought I would treat myself to some heated Oxford Hotgrips to make the 6am ride to the train station in -2C (as it was last week more bearable).

The requirement was that the install would be no drill i.e i didn't want to drill holes in any of the plastics and secondly, i wanted to be able to adjust the level or turn off while riding. Anything below my Tuccano leg cover would not work.

Enter a bit of quick-n-dirty design 3dPrint i did last night and this mirror stem thing worked out even better than expected so I thought I'd share it.

The grips model I went with was Oxford Hot Grips Adventure. The install was pretty straight forward other than the throttle tube needed a bit of sanding before the grips would slide over.

I sort of wish this model had an ignition-on wire connection rather than 'magic' sensing technology guessing when the engine is running but loads of good reviews so I'm hoping it will do the job. I also bought a relay which I might fit if i get any battery charge issues.

For now actually looking forward to riding to the station on Monday morning!

Enjoy.

Just had all the plastic off again to continue with my mod. I wasn't happy with the grips being on before and after the engine was running so I fitted a relay off the headlight switch wire as a trigger. Very cool now they only come on once the engine is running rather than drawing precious crank energy that needs to be spared to get you home. The Oxford grips remember the heat setting between runs too. Very happy with the result.

Now thinking if should treat myself to a new Tucanno skirt. This one is 15 years old!!!

My dealer fitted both my Oxford grips and they used a switched live somewhere in the headlight. With muffs as well you will be toasty warm and can still wear summer gloves so you retain feeling and control.

I mounted my oxford controller on the left cover in front of my knee. Since it has auto shutoff I wired it direct to the battery - relay not needed.

(the switch in the photo is unrelated)

Ok but now we want to know what the switch does.

Yeah that location didn't work for me as I have the Tuccano leg cover. I bet that switch is wet nitrous? Amirite?

Thanks for sharing. I actually like that design better than the Oxford one I.e having the switch on the grip it's self. The Oxford ones get nice and toasty but take a bit of time to get to temperature. My run to the station is 10 mins. I think I can start feeling warmth after 3 and then full heat 6 minutes in.
