From what I heard the main advantage to iridium plugs is that they last practically forever.

I looked into iridium plugs for my MGB and calculated how many sets of regular plugs I could buy for the price on one set of iridium plugs.

Further research indicated that platinum plugs give almost the same longevity of iridium and are much cheaper.

Iridium for a Vespa, with one plug would not be as much of an investment.

The biggest issue with these long life plugs is when left they tend to seize and strip out the plug hole due to dirt and debris as well as electrolysis between the steel spark plug and the aluminum head

Probably not a good choice for a fragile aluminum Italian engine block such as the Piaggio

Bottom line: R&r'ing the plugs on a semi regular basis is a good thing

you don't pull the plug at each oil change and inspect?

to me thats part of servicing. just like checking tire pressures, lights, horn inspecting fuel lines, checking brake pads and rotors, greasing bearings, checking throttle play , inspecting and lubing cables, checking brake fluids, coolant levels. changing gear oil.

I just replace them outright every 6K mi/10K km along with the belt and all the other fluids&filters, making the 3K mi/5K km in between oil service a simple 10-15 minute job.

Could they last longer? Probably, but given the low cost why bother.

As driving around for many years on my little mopet,
I always change the original spark plugs with Iridium.

expecially on 2T engines, it will last forever,
because it isn't effected by the oil in the fuel.

As my new bike is 10 years old now and into a big overhaul
(new oils, everything fresh grease and new plugs)
I just ordered 2 new Iridums as well.
