Weird. I've had no issues with the split headset.

Not split. The first couple years after that. If the angle isn't 💯 the outer will delaminate and gum up the throttle tube/gearshift tube. Maybe there's a trick I am unaware of? But, I hate that job with a passion.

The absolute rats nest of wiring in the LML/Stella headsets. I feel like I have to sit on the speedometer to get it all squished back in every time!

The placing of the balls on any smallie gear selector.

...also:

Running the brake wires up/down the tube on any Vespa, but especially the early to mid 60's.

Attaching the spring for most aftermarket smallie exhausts.

Driving out the rivets on a cush drive.

Floor rails.

(Starting to wonder why I like these damn things at all.)

Out of everything I have worked on, 1949 to current, would have to be setting the spring on the kick quadrant & closing the cases (both are done at the same time) of pre-1954 engines. An absolute juggling act.

My point exactly, on par with PX EFL onwards. Only thing not to like are the wood screws...

Hows it compare to a split VNA headset? Cause that is super easy to work on. Only tough time I've had was the throttle cable and getting the outer up into the little spot it sits which is at a slightly odd angle that gets a new inner cable stuck at the exit point in the headset.

I have both a square tail T5 and a split VNA headset. I chose the T5 over the VNA any day. Even easier than a P or a PX.

VMC make cables (only smallframe so far) that have adjusters built into the middle of the cable. That would be a good answer to reduce the tight bend before the selector box.

I did a similar thing on the clutch cable of my smallframe, although I had difficulty finding the right size. I don't know if I'm looking for the wrong search term for the cable adjusters but had very few options in the end. So certainly not as neat as the VMC, but at least it's easy to get to.
