Modern Vespa

I thought I saw that someone here has run leads from battery to or under the pet carrier so as to easily hook up tender/charger without uncovering the battery. But I've searched and can't find it???

Thoughts/suggestions (good or bad idea?) location size of wires etc

yes, i did this. run the wires through the metal housing the separates the battery box for the pet carrier

I've done it in all my bikes as well. Very handy!

You can buy battery tender pigtails on Amazon etc for a couple of bucks each

I drilled a 5/8" hole in the pet carrier and ran the Battery Tender pigtail inside on all three (3) of my Vespas. Just leave the seat unlocked to connect to the Battery Tender.

Good idea, lots of us do it. Run two 16-gauge wires from the battery terminals, under the floorboard mat, and up the front inside wall of the pet carrier. Put SAE connector plugs on the ends and tuck them in. Lets you plug in your tender without taking the bike apart. Just keep the connections clean and insulated.

Or let the battery-box cover withour screws? Cover keeps ok in place and just lift the cover, voila!

My previous 2009 GTS had a pigtail in the engine compartment, zip tied to the main wiring harness so it was held away from the cylinder head.

My current 2007 GTS has the charger pigtail rin from the battery up through the bottom of the glovebox. I prefer the glovebox location actually.

Just last Saturday I extended my battery tender lead from where the bike shop had trapped it with the black plastic battery cover.

I took the standard TM connector and soldered two lengths of 8 amp blue cable complete with circular battery connectors. I ran the cables out of the rear of the battery compartment up and around to the right hand side of the chassis. In this position it doesn't get in the way of the pet carrier, its away from heat and water.

The red tape on the photo where the wire passes through the frame is just securing a cable protector to avoid chafing on any sharp edges.

Mine's routed out the bottom and zip tied to rear brake line.

I ran a tender pigtail from the battery box to inside the pet carrier on my BV-400. I took out the incandescent bulb ( the only one on the bike, all others are LEDs). This way I can leave seat unlocked without any draw on the battery. Bike stays in garage under cover. I just go in, leave pigtail over the side, close seat ( not hard close) and plug in. BTW the pigtail I used is a heavier 12 ga. Wire and SAE plug. If needed I can plug in my jumper battery/ tire pump/ light.

I ran mine outside the battery cover so I don't have to bend over to plug it in.

You have a 2012 GTV.
Does it by accident have a 12V socket in the glove compartment?

If it has and it is always on tension, also with the contact off, you can use that socket to connect the tender. You only need a suitable interface connector.

That is how I use the tender on my 2012 BV 300.
Make sure your tender delivers current that is clearly below what the fuse can handle for not blowing it.

No need to overthink it, unless you really want to hide the cable. A small notch under the edge of the battery cover, an adhesive cable clip, and you're done.
