Modern Vespa

Hi

I own a 2008 Vespa GTS 250ie.

Recently my indicators stopped working. I've done a lot of troubleshooting - fuses.. checking cables etc.

On the weekend i swapped out my instrument cluster with a friends old busted one (screen issues etc) which fixed the problem.

My instrument cluster is in very good condition (7500km on the clock) except for this issue. Hoping to find someone to repair it but have had no luck finding anyone in australia that knows anything about opening it up and looking at the board to fix whatever the issue is. Ultimately i'd prefer not to replace it as that's quite expensive.

Any thoughts, recomendations or ideas would be helpful.

Have you tried opening it up? Might be a simple as swapping boards with the damaged one.

Or the cause may be apparent: broken wire, bad solder, burned component,...

I can't take the board out of the spare as it belongs to someone else - i'm borrowing it so i can ride at the moment with indicators.

I haven't had the time/courage to open up the cluster yet. Was really hoping to find someone who knows what they're doing or what they're looking at so that it's a quicker/safer fix.

Every guage business across australia i've reached out to says they have no idea and never done it before.. no ones even willing to open it to check it out. Might have to send it to germany of all places. still cheaper then replacing the whole unit. Seems a waste

you say the indicators stopped working - did you mean jsut the leds on the dash or the actual indicators? I'm assuming you mean the actual.

you say swapping the dash fixed it, so my first question is what about when the dash is simply not connected? I'm currently suspecting a short circuit in the dash between the plug and the leds.

(I mistakenly though the blinker module/relay was separate like the 300

It could take somebody hours, and at shop rates, to troubleshoot a bad instrument panel. And somewhere, somebody has one of those sitting on a shelf in their garage and they're wondering how they're ever going to find somebody who wants it. I'd suggest trolling around on eBay for a used part. You might have to tweak some setting so you can see eBay listings outside of your home country.

The 250 has the unfortunate feature of the turn signal pulses being generated in the dashboard.

However this can very easily and cheaply remedied by adding a standard motorcycle two-prong turn signal relay.

Cut the blue/black wire that connects to the turn signal switch and wire the new relay between that switch end and a switched ignition feed. That's it!

Thanks this is something i've certainly considered, my first instinct is to repair it first. I also want to upgrade to LED
