So in my ''valley'' there is a new law in place. With a short practice you can get, along with your car cathegory, also 125ccm licence. BUT you can use it only in my state!

Givving that I am from the border and I travel in Italy sometimes, that is a big handicap. Not to mention I would loose the power (300ccm to 125ccm). The mechanic is also from Italy...

Would you change this?

Only you know the answer to that question.

It all depends if the smaller scoot can fulfill your expectations (power, fuel range, storage, do the daily (go to work and back), etc, etc, etc, etc)

To me, a 125cc is only good for basic urban duty and even that is limited.

If you already have a motorcycle license for the 300, why downgrade to a 125cc?

In my place 3 wheeler is considered as car chategory no matter the power, but 125ccm is considered as basic motor chategory A1.

That is the same in the entire EU, as long as the trike meets L5e regulation requirements

For 125ccm - A1 - you need 6 hours of practice. For full A cat. You need theory and practice

Once again, what are your expectations?

If, at some point, you want to ride a real motorcycle then you need a full (class A) motorcycle license. No ifs, ands, or buts about it.

The whole "I can ride a bike with my car license" is more of a legislation loophole than anything else that Piaggio exploits and milks to the hilt.

And if you really study the EU vehicle laws down to the letter, you can obtain a full A license through the MP3 (no theory, no practice). That is loophole #2.

The exams are there for a reasons, and practice takes years and many thousands of km.

Having said that, don't even think about jumping on a GoldWing with just a car license and the little bit of scooter practice you have.

Not necessarily. The laws and regulations are public domain info

Tell that to Slovene birocrats or at least you will die trying... Laughing emoticon
In Italy, at the registration and insurance they sometimes don't even know what vehicle type is the mp3. They struggle from 3-wheeler, to "free time" vehicle and what not. At the end, it can be a difference in 1000 EUR of insurance per year.
Of course an insurance agency would like you to spend more.

If you're paying 1K to insure a MP3, then you need to move to a different insurance company. My MP3 costs less than 300, and is the most expensive of all my bikes. My Hondas cost about 175/year

None of my cars cost 1K per year to insure, and they're all high value cars.

That's because the mp3 is neither meat nor fish. It's an oddball contraption.

Remember that the first mp3 bikes used to require a full class A bike license, and it didn't sell. What a surprise.

Only when Piaggio redesigned and widened the front end could they be sold as a trike and be used on a car license.

If Piaggio hadn't done this the mp3 would have been discontinued many many years ago due to lack of sales.
