A proposal is being discussed to introduce "congestion pricing" to midtown Manhattan, modeled after the program begun a few years ago in London's financial district, whereby people are charged a flat fee to drive in that part of town during business hours. This is intended to relieve congestion, speed up bus times and of course raise money.

Just curious -- where do scooters fit in under this scheme in London? Do they pay the same rate as cars, a discounted rate, or are they exempt (i.e., considered congestionally insignificant)?

I'm not a Londoner, but I found this online:

"Scooters are exempt from the £5 per day central london congestion charge."

If you want to know what the GT200 vs the GTS cost in London, this is a great exchange rate caculator. Seems like the GT200 would be about $5200 and the GTS is about $5675 US. Not much more for the GTS over there anyway?

All powered two wheelers are exempt form the London congestion charge which is great and it's nice to see the politicians recognising that they're a great way to cut congestion.

From what I've read there's beem a real boom in scooter sales in London since the charge was introduced.

thanks for chipping in vinnie. i was asked by len to comment on it, but its been a good few years since ive driven in london, and wasnt sure what the dealie was with bikes.

IIRC, they have a similar system in durham and a few other cities..
Im waiting for it to happen here in norwich. Its either gonna be that, or full pedestrianisation.
