I have a little over 1000 miles on my GT. I'm not having any problems however I don't want to wait till I do.

Does anybody know about how long the break pads should last?

While I'm down for the 2 months over the winter I will be changing my exhaust to a Scorpion, my plug to a Denso, oil, filter, front and rear tires, hub oil, and recharge the oil filter. May also change the gas filter and if my brakes need it will also change them.

Thanks for any comments from those who have changed pads.

Regards
MGG

The life of the brake pads totally depends on the riding style you do. I ride mine on highways mostly and mine are doing fine even after 10,000 miles, but the same may wear out by then with constant stop and start in city driving.

it all depends on riding style.
but the fronts generally last a long long long time
and the rears generally go out first.
i'd say rears usually around 6~8K...
when they've got your rear tire off the 2nd time have 'em pop in a new pair. it's only an extra 15~20mins or so instead of having to do 'em on down the line and paying the full tilt on the job.

best,

I was planning to do all this work myself except to get the wheels professionally balanced. So I will likely do the rear brakes as well. Now I'm reading posts about the rollers. Should I also be changing them?

Absolutely! Consider changing all the consumables at the same time to ultimately save time and money, ... and it keeps your scoot running smooth. Have a belt on-hand when you do the rollers. If the belt is near-worn, replace it. Me, I'd just replace it without question.
