I went for a nice long ride (about 50 miles), and after I got back, turned off the engine, and parked in the garage, I started hearing this kind of farting/burping sound. It happened about every 15-20 seconds or so. It was coming from the engine compartment but when I removed the pet carrier I couldn't tell where exactly it was. It didn't sound like the fan at all. What's up? Does it need Rolaids?

Mine used to do that when it was brand new (GTV here). But after 400-500miles or so, it stopped doing it. Yeah, it was weird. It was more like mini-burps, like heartburn.

Gas tank pressure....just remove the gas cap for a second or 2. Has something to do with the gas evaporator system or something like that....I'm sure someone else really knows.

Can this system be removed?

Mine does it too. The best fix is to just drop some Beano in the tank.

This has actually been discussed quite a bit. There are a couple of threads with pictures, but on this thread Jess gives a quick description of removal.

Sometimes a check valve doesn't work quite right. I think the noise is normal, though.

Decompression of the fuel injection system. Nothing to worry about at all. Very normal.

Thanks. Sounds like enough people have had the same thing happen that it's nothing to worry about, unless I start to have a stumble problems. In that case I guess I refer back to this thread above and disable the evap system as Jess describes. I've never noticed any stumbles (had it up to 80mph today testing my new flyscreen!).

I think I've isolated the source. It does involve the pet carrier after all.
