I've got a vespa brand windscreen installed on my LX150 and I have to continuously keep tightening it into it's sleeves about once a week. It seems to loosen itself up after a while and starts pushing itself out of the sleeves and it starts rattling around.

Anyone else have this problem? Or did I do something wrong in the installation? That could be it. The instructions were, after all, Italian to me.

My Vespa windscreen does not do that. Perhaps you have assembled the bits in the wrong order.

Scooters vibrate. Things loosen. This stuff has been a lifesaver to me.

but surely the screen shouldn't require weekly tightening? i installed both of my screens - with very feeble girly hands - and neither of them has moved even after months of riding on london's 'assertively textured' road surfaces.

i'm with starreem on this one - it sounds like you've left some tiny but vital component out of the installation process, or put it in backwards or something. there is a diagram on here somewhere showing how it's done - if i wasn't in the middle of packing for an early flight tomorrow, i'd have a look for you.

afterthought - did you make sure that the expander bolts were all the way down into the sockets before tightening them? i had to put a bit of copper grease on one of mine, and tap it very gently with a hammer in order to get it seated properly in the socket.

I checked my assemblage. The parts are in the right order according to the diagram. It just seems light the more you tighten them the more the bars tend to push themselves out of the sleeve.

sounds to me like you have not got them in far enough initially before you start tightening.

do not know the model, but I usually fix these problems by fitting some old good split-ring lock washers.
My PX125E is full of them, and my brand-new Scarabeo used to get its rear mudguard's central screw loosened after a few miles. Fixed with a washer.

When I installed my FACO windscreen, I was annoyed by the expanding bolt spinning instead of expanding. But once I got that taken care of, I haven't had the slightest loosening. The effect of the expanding bolt is to create a threaded hole for the machine screw that actually holds the windscreen brackets in place. Then there's a lock washer that prevents the machine bolt from turning. So my guess is that you didn't get the expanding bolt in tight enough in the first place, or you left out the lockwasher.

i am now having the same problem.

only, i re- tighten every day.

my scoot came with the wind screen, i took it on and off a couple times when i first got it, and never had a problem. i put it on a few weeks ago, as the mornings have gotten cold and i find it needs tightening once a day.

i have tried re-doing it a few times, but it doesn't seem to ever be quite right. is there a trick to getting a good fit that i am forgetting?

If you are talking about where the mounting posts go into the headset, you may not have had them in all the way when you tightened it. When I first put my screen on, I hadn't fully inserted one of the posts, and it did become loose.

My flyscreen does have a slight bit of movement but I thought this might be normal. I will double-check and make sure mine are all the way seated as well. As usual, good info all around!

You have to give them a good smack to make sure the ends are seated.

I'm in love with Rae's avatar (Down, boy)

Oh...I'm a complete idiot, but I followed the Italian directions as best I could for my Faco mid windscreen, and it's as tight as ever.
