I will be taking a GT200 in for the 3000 mile service. This will probably be the last scheduled service before the 1 year warrantee expires so I have some questions about repairing possible known "issues". Namely the infamous and occasional CVT belt "shudder" problem. I have been following the threads on this forum and the infamous scooterbbs.com forum ;^)

I have only experienced the CVT belt "shudder" problem on warm/humid mornings and after about 10 minutes of operation the problem goes away. Now that the mornings in Austin Texas are cooler/dryer the problem is not present. I know this experience is contrary to what others have experienced (problem frequently associated with heat?)

What is the latest on the CVT belt "shudder" issue? Any official word from Piaggio? Any technical service bulletins?? I have a feeling that the CVT belt "shudder" problem will resurrect itself after the 1 year warrantee expires next summer...

And how much should I fight with the dealer to correct the reoccurring problem? (which is not occurring at the moment.) And is this a legitiamte problem?? If so, I anticipate the dealer being quite reluctant to repair a problem that he/she can not detect unless there is a Piaggio technical service bulletin on the particular issue.

Also, like theOZ I have noticed that the turn signal hates "left" and loves right. Any official word from Piaggio on the flimsy turn signal issue?

Any info and/or advice will be GREATLY appreciated!

Thanks!!

Hey Edward,

Are you refering to the awful notchy feeling when trying to cancel the turn signal? I found it mysteriously is a lot smoother just after a wash - which suggests it could benefit from some sort of non-solvent based lube.

Regarding the shuddering thing, I occasionally get a "less than smooth" sensation when taking off, but it comes and goes and I wouldn't yet call it a shudder. I think the secret to minimizing these sorts of issues is going to involve keeping the inside of the belt cover clean and dust free which my gut feeling (and it is a big gut! LOL!!) is that this will also help prolong the life of the rollers as well.

Anyone else think this may be a factor? I could be wrong

Cheers,
Bob

Re: GT200 service questions (CVT belt "shudder")
I'm in the same boat; I experience terrible shuddering accompanied by an awful grinding (and sometimes screeching) noise when the scooter's warm, I'm starting from a stop or in slow traffic, and I'm riding 1 or 2-up. The dealer's inspected the clutch and tells me nothing is technically wrong. Can this be fixed or is it an inherent flaw?? How many GT200 owners are dealing with this?

I've only experienced this once. I was sitting in traffic that was barely moving due to an accident ahead. It was a little warm out and the engine was getting hot. It hasn't happened since. I've only got about 1800 miles on mine, though.

My GT200 signal switch is likewise grumpy turning left. Needs a bit of effort (somtimes pushing 2x) to get the indicator on, and I find myself looking at the indicator on the headset to make sure it's working.

I thought I was the only one with this issue... it's been like that since I got the scooter ('04 with 124 miles on it, so it's not like it's worn out) back over the summer. My other GT ('05) that I had did not have this issue...

Not the biggest issue, but a pain in the ass...
