So what is it? Is there anything that will sound and give the oomph of say a truck horn and will fit inside the 500 somewhere? I heard the stebel 139db horn on youtube but it didn't really sound that big...of course that is from youtube so it's certainly not the same as in real life.

Here's a horn I was looking at but this thing looks huge and doesn't look like it would fit.

If you can't make it fit then you're not using a big enough hammer

That's not the one you want. I am still trying to find the correct one again.

There are several places you can mount the Stebel, like here:
The horn is in there sideways, compressor is on the bottom.

I have the stebel compact in my MP3 250. It is more than loud enough to be heard at 75-80 MPH. My only objection is when I give a hello beep it's really to loud. I should have kept the original horn and added a second button.

Yeah, I like to give a hello toot too and have held off replacing the original for that reason. I would like to devise a second button that will be armed and ready for quick action when I need the loud horn.

If I find the right switch/button I'm primed and ready. I have the horn and built the power harness.

I got a REALLY GOOD price. I paid for one horn and there were two in the box I received.

Going to give one to my brother for his Gold Wing

You're right. That is a good deal! Even better than when you press the button on a soda machine and two sodas pop out. 8)

two horn setup
Anybody have any input on how to properly wire a stebel as a secondary horn, whilst maintaining the original meep? I want to use a marine grade push button switch for the stebel, and was thinking of mounting the stebel low under the seat by the engine. Talk amongst yourselves...

The problem with a second horn button is you are not going to be able to get it in as good a position as the stock horn button. You need something you can get to without thinking. If you have two horn buttons your reaction is going to be go for the stock button and if you hesitate it could be too late by the time you hit the right one.

Just MHO

The thing to do then is wire the NEW horn to the STOCK horn button, and the original horn to the new horn button.

Getting to the original horn is a pain tho.

two horns
Thanks for your replies. Had considered the fact that two horn buttons would be cumbersome, and/or confusing, but if there were a two position button switch out there that would play the stock horn with the switch halfway, then the stebel when it was fully pushed would be the ticket!

I desire the same thing, and may have thought of a possible solution but it will require some research and fabrication.

If we use the existing horn and button then add a delay circuit/device, another relay and the loud horn, then we could hit the original button for both.

It would work like this; Add another pair of leads from the original horn to a delay circuit that would absorb the first 1/3 to 1/2 second of horn button depression. This would allow the quick "yo beep" before activating the second relay. But if you hold the button the big boy kicks in.

A quick search finds some DIY circuits and some packaged timers.

What I don't know yet is what would be a safe delay that would allow the quick beep and get to the loud horn to be effective. The good thing is there will still be an instant beep one way or the other. Time trials will result in a winning delay time too.

I'm still thinking.

Monty...

I like your way of thinking. Please, please let me know if you tinker with it as I would love to attempt to try the same thing if it is a success. As I am not an electrical expert, any diagrams of your experiment would be appreciated. Good Luck!

With a loud horn fitted, I find a quick flick of the horn button makes the "BAa" sound quite polite. You should use your horn almost by instinct - working out where a second button is when your mind is full of avoiding an 'incident' may contribute to the 'incident' rather than minimising it.
