However, it works better in situations when you have a certain "niche", i.e. Vintage, or all Vespa riders, etc.., and care more about having a "club" atmosphere feel to it. When you really care more about getting together and riding and just sitting around shooting the shit with a group of like-minded people, I think the rules should strictly be safety items for group riding. If you are looking for people who will really ride, and like hanging out, you tend to get a diverse group of many. But once the novelty has worn off, you are left with a great bunch of people who come out every week and seem dedicated to your "group". At least, that is how it is playing out in our group. I really believe it all depends on what your goals are. If it's a club and you want dues, memberships, allegiance, conditions then Eric is on the money and there is nothing right or wrong about it. If you care more about just getting together and riding, then being choosey who your members are to begin with doesn't seem like the way to go. My 2 cents Now the group members communicate all over the state, rally attendance is way up and we really support each other and the Florida scooter scene. The great things about our GROUP are - it's FREE, anyone with a scooter that can keep up on the rides can join us, there is very little drama and no one has to act as the ENFORCER. We had our first rally last year with a wonderful turnout and now lots of people have connected with other scooter riders. We really encourage people to get together with locals and ride. If there is a local CLUB and they want to join, that's great. But if no organized club exists or if it is exclusive, our GROUP gives them a way to connect with others to RIDE. I realized a CLUB would be a lot more work and LIABILITY than a group. Here in Florida people come and go quickly, but we do have a good core group that keeps things going. I guess we just don't qualify for a secret hand shake Janine |

We started our club here in Grand Rapids, Michigan, last year...
We posted it on coffee house posters, Internet sites like here and yahoo, craigslist..... We got some one timers, got regulars, turned out we have a good group of guys, but need more ladies! We have a mix of scoots, Italian, Jap, even Chinese....when they run.... We help each other in tuning, had a group buy from Germany....and have no drama so far...just a lot of good times.... 6 to 12 show up, have coffee, go for a ride, and afterwards, do some tuning, either the scoots or go for a stop at the local establishment for one... No dues, no membership, just show up and ride.....is the best.... http://www.grscooterclub.com/ |

Wow, this has turned into quite the thread.
Bonnie is right, I just wanna ride. I had such fun with the Ann Arbor folks, just riding around with other scooters was pretty neat! I see ALOT of scooters down my way (Monroe area to those who know) but I'm not aware of a club, or riding group down here. Besides, once I'm done installing all my chrome bits and my whitewalls and whatever else I manage to dream up, I'll have the coolest scooter around down here! |

Ive seen it here, some clubs let assholes in just because of they ride the same scooter type as the club, but yet they miss out on a good person who would be a better fit for the club, because they a differnt scoot than the club. One rule that should be added to a list is: No public disrect and/or bad mouthing another scooter club, name and/or colors. Ive seen it done on Blogs and I think its Chicken Shit to hide behind an avatar. Manny godoggo~ - |
