I am on the hunt for a vintage Vespa with a solid body and not necessarily a perfect engine to tinker with. My biggest hurdle is narrowing which model and year I like the best. Does anyone know of any websites that directly compare them side by side with tons of images?

Thanks a million

Just buy a GS150 or a Rally 200 and forget the comparison. Either way, you'll have one dead-nuts SEXY scooter or a "vintage" beast when all's said and done.

i know nothing of vintage... but if your serious, first decided what your going to "use it for"... or are you just wanting a project? are going to do an original restoration, custom, cruiser or racer? a kitted out monster? a bit of all of them mixed together? depending on purpose, you'll have to decide on frame size, wheel size, engine size... also check on the availability of replacement parts on a particular series... some small frames are missing battery and engine doors that are impossible to find, the rally 180/200 are sexy machines but the cowls are worth more than the scooter now... if you can find cowls! vba and vbb gas tanks? forget about it! of course the P series have the best availability of parts and optional after market bits...

truthfully and i've never done this type of thing, i would suggest; finding the frame you want and then look for engine cases and build it the way want it. i prefer stock or semi-stock motors(sito-plus, bigger carb...) and a flashy paint job. i don't want an "original" restoration of a stock bike... i also don't care about keeping original parts... like a GL head set on a Super or cutting and fitting a P glove box for a Sprint... that type of stuff. buying a couple of scoots and parting one out... it's the cheapest way to do it and the funnest... it's definitely a long time project!

even though i don't recommend buying one, the [redacted] web site has a lot of great pics of several different vintage bikes and paint jobs.

have a good and clean work space and the right tools can make it way more enjoyable...

good luck and let me know if i can offer any help.
some of the scooters i'm restoring... not the P! that was Brother Brian's project(and it turned out great)! behind the P200 is a '62 cushman then a german import Sport 150 and a '64 VBB sitting on the keg. and my '66 blue badge with a malossi 166 and SIP

Love the shop, Tom. I like the anti-pegboard you've got there. I've got pegboard up in my shop, and it nearly drives me crazy.

Is that the tail of a '61 Ford Meteor (Canadian) in the picture?

OK, close but no cigar. The paint scheme on the rear fender is similar to the Canadian Ford (Meteor). in '61. The Comet was a compact car by the standards of the day...........a large car by our present day. Some of those Comets really screamed when Ford put the 427 in them a couple of years later. Nice shop!

...i thought the comet is just the mercury version of the ford meteor... it's a "compact" two door with a six banger and three on the tree... i know someone with a meteor and they look almost identical? i'll post better pics tomorrow if interested.

the best part of the shop is we just bought a (smallish)fridge and i wired speakers to my computer for music... i'll be adding more light soon
the fridge... beer aways close at hand, actually Dr Pepper more often than beer!
