Hi guys,

I purchased a restored '65 VBB. I am using a 2% oil/gas mix, with synthetic 2T oil. The exhaust seems very smokey at idle. What do you guys think?

Here is the video of the scooter in idle : http://www.domainoverdose.com/exhaust.avi

Thanks in advance.

...looks pretty typical. are you shutting off the gas? is your fuel tap not shutting off/leaking? sometimes a being a little flooded causes allot of smoke... but remember that you are burning oil/gas mix...

Thank you. The gas is shut off. Any other tips on how to minimize exhaust smoke? I'm worried the "green" movement here in san francisco will throw rocks at me while I'm driving.

Invisible exhaust is often more harmful. And 2stroke engines are not "green" in any case. But your footprint is smaller, right down to using less steel in the last 30, 40yrs.

If a 2 stroke scooter doesn't smoke, something is wrong. But you can use some synthetics that are low smoke like Ipone. Even at 2% it's a lot less noticeable.

Yup. I thought the video looked pretty good, actually, in terms of smoke quantity.

when my px was smokey the clutch side oil seal had gone and was burning gear oil , check gearbox oil level and see if it smells of fuel ( gas )

did you measure the oil to fuel correctly 20ml oil to 1 litre fuel and no just a little bit more for luck Laughing emoticon

You should see my SS180, if you think that's bad. Razz emoticon It runs 5% mix.

Just avoid starting your scooter in front of a bunch of tourists sitting at a sidewalk cafe in North Beach. For some reason, they always get annoyed when the 2 stroke smoke wafts over and interferes with their cigarette smoking.

I read somewhere on line that ipone is not full synthetic, that it is semi-synthetic.

While searching, I found a product they have called "Ipone Synthesis 2 Anti-Smoke": http://shop.motorcyclenews.com/ProductDetail.aspx?catID=(Lubricants)&prodID=make=Ipone%7Cmodel=Synthesis%202%20Anti-Smoke%20Pre%20Mix

I could not find any forum posts about this oil - only information on the strawberry shortcake version: http://www.scooterworks.com/2_Stroke_Oil-_Ipone_Scoot_City_P2432C214.cfm

Has anyone tried the "Ipone Synthesis 2 Anti-Smoke"?

Thanks

Try the strawberry version. It's not bad and doesn't really smell like strawberry. If you smelled regular ipone next to it you'd probably barely tell the difference. That anti smoke seems to be all pre mix so maybe it's the same stuff in a different targeted bottle (minus the strawberry scent).
