Any of the European riders using the Givi x.01 helmet. I just saw a review on it today and am contemplating ordering it from designer helmets in the UK. It would cost me £225 or $448. It seems like the neatest helmet out there at the current time. What do you think? I know its not DOT approved for the US but European approved and a sticker bought on Ebay are good enough for me.

Givi Helmet
I've been unable to find a supplier for the Givi Helmet you are refering to, here in the states. Another Helmet that is similar is the Dainese Jet Stream Tourer. Also came up blank on a supplier. Please relay info. if you find one.
Thanks, Dave |

www.designerhelmets.com is the place in the UK that I found to order the helmet from. To get your correct size try on a Shoei RF-1000 here in the US. If the Shoei fits the Givi of the same size should fit.

I don't know the Givi. I usually use Shoei. But I just bought a Z1R from www.motostrano.com and the fit is great and it is quite lightweight. Also happens to be the safest helmet tested by Motorcyclist Magazine.
Oh yeah, cost? $55.00. |

As you can see I said neatest helmet out there right now, not necessarily the cheapest or safest, although I'm sure it is safe. Some of us like to have the latest and the greatest and be different then most others. Just like having an MP3 rather then other scoots that can still get you around.

There is a thread about the Givi in the general forum. BTW, the price has gone up since I bought it about 5 weeks ago.

You may want to email them and ask if they can special order for you. |

I'll take either Helmet right now, whew . I checked with Cycle Gear here in town and they only carried one Dainese model. And he said since the one we want isn't DOT approved that he can't order. Let me know what you learn. I'm going to contact Designer Helmets tommorow.
Thanks, Dave |

My wife wants one of the Dainese Jet Stream Tourer Helmets and we have been emailing a store in Belgium that quotes US prices and ships here. The helmet is not DOT approved, but it does meet the European standards. The web site is http://www.bimoto.eu or http://www.bimoto.be. They do not have my wife's size and color choice in stock so we will wait for a while. Overall, they have been prompt, friendly and cooperative, but they don't have our money yet either.

My wife has a 54 cm diameter head (21") and they said she would be between a S and a XS so she wants a white or yellow one in S. They said that what she wants won't be in stock until October. The other 5 colors (black starlight, matte black, gray, silver and red) were available in S, but wife is holding out for the color of her choice. Not sure of inventory in XS.

Anyone have any thoughts on medical coverage (ie insurance) if in an accident using a EU approved, but not DOT approved helmet?
Since Florida is a "helmet Optional" state, would it even matter? |

Since Florida is a "helmet Optional" state, would it even matter? AZ is also a state where helmets are not required. I will pose the question to my insurance company and see what they have to say about it. I use State Farm. If you use another company, it would be interesting to hear what they say about it, as well. From a logical perspective, my thoughts on this would be that if the State you live in does not require a helmet, the fact that you were wearing a helmet in the event of an accident could only be in your favor, DOT approved or not. It would show you were being responsible over and above State law. I'll post what I find out when I get a response from my insurer. |

"You know the helmets we sell have the European homologation (E3) certificates inside and not the American DOT certification. Concerning the available sizes ; we have at this moment almost all sizes available in all different colour schemes. Not available for the moment; all Jet Stream Tourer helmets in the yellow colour scheme (promissed for delivery in August). Jet Stream Tourer helmet in the white colour scheme in size small is at this moment also sold out. Again available beginning of October." So there you have it. I've asked to be emailed when the yellow is available. Hopefully, they can do that. |

I have had two flip-up helmets (Nolan and Shoei), and the Givi X.01 beats them both for hot weather riding. It has great ventilation, plus it is so light and your field of view is huge.
I ordered from designerhelmets.com. I wore a size M in the Nolan and Shoei helmets. For the Givi the M2 (58 cm) fits me perfectly. There is more discussion on this helmet here: https://modernvespa.com/forum/topic28072?highlight=givi+helmet |
