Not that it happened, but what would happen if I accidentally locked my key in the compartment under the seat?

Between, putting the cover back on the scooter, holding my gloves, goggles and helmet, I almost did that today. If my spare key is not close by does that mean I'm SOL?

(btw, since this is a public forum maybe it would be better if anyone could PM me the solution for security reasons).

yeah..but if you lock your keys in the pet box AFTER you've put the ignition and headset into LOCK position.. then that won't work, right?

Glove box won't open then for you to get at that emergency lever.

But if you don't put all that into full-left LOCK..then you'll be fine. But then your pet box and glove box won't be secure.

So still gotta be careful..I think.

Maybe because of the pictures you have posted, of your fine automobiles, and your mention of having 2 homes, across the country from one another? Naturally I assume you aren't punching a time clock.

I've locked them in the case twice. Both times I got someone to drive me home and back so I could get my spare key. Pain in the neck to do but at least I didn't have to break anything to get them back.

I think I'm going to start wearing the key around my neck on a bungie cored.

unless you opened the seat, then locked the steering head, then put the key under the seat and closed it you'd be fine as the seat release button will continue to work as long as the fork is left unlocked. If you somehow managed to do that (unlikely) I'd dig out the spare key (master that you have tucked away somewhere very carefully, right?), unlock it, and ride straight down to the hardware store to buy one of those key-rings-on-a-string things. If you luck is that bad with keys, you're going to need all the help you can get.

On the LXV you use a long skinny flathead screwdriver
reach up under the seat at the lock point and
pull the lock manually.
The LXV as well as the LX uses a key so it doesn't
have a release in the glove box

LOL. Under the seat, not up under the bike. On the outside.

I believe there is a thread in the help section on this.

Levi's fifth pocket holds spare key and not much else. Don't leave home with fifth pocket empty.

Taxi home and get spare.

I've got a spare key hidden on the scoot that has its security chip removed. I've got an LX150, so if my key's stuck in the pet carrier, it's kind of a pain. So, the spare just sits on the scoot in case I have to get into the pet carrier. It's easier than trying to wrangle the seat off, and doesn't pose that much of a security threat since you can't actually start the scoot with the chip removed.

Shortly after we got our Vespa we met some friends at a bar after work. I took public transp. down, my wife rode the vespa from work. We left the Vespa parked at the bar and went to the Rockies game. When we came back after the game my wife didn't have the key. We assumed it was locked in the pet carrier.

Our friends drove us home to get the spare. We drove back downtown (about 20 mins. each way). I opened the pet carrier and the key wasn't in there! We go into the bar and the key is at the hostess stand waiting for us! My wife had left it sitting on the bar. It was there the whole time, 40 min. round trip was a total waste of time. Oh well. I hope you've enjoyed my story.

lol...similar situation except it was at a lingerie party, was getting ready to take a date (and her girlfriend) home, miss placed the key, called the towing company only to find out that the key was sitting in the trunk of the car when they arrived, by time I got home it was 6:30 am and needless to say the only thing I got was some badly needed sleep.

always leave the key in the ignition when you haev the seat open. i make a habit of it.

the key never goes anywhere near the pet carrier or the glovebox.

its either in my pocket or in the ignition.

there is a way to do it, but it involves breaking the glovebox open and pulling the black lever.

Or maybe it's because you have too much time on your hands so you post question like, "What if"

It is a pain if you have to open the seat with the key (LX vs GTS). You can pick up one of those stretchy plastic wristband keychains. Take key out of ignition, slip over wrist and no chance of it falling into pet carrier. And because the band is plastic it won't bang against and damage paint when in the ignition. Easier than wearing around your neck.
