Just wondering if theft insurance, comprehensive as it's called in Canada is purchased from insurance companies is on most scoots or do you all have just liability insurance? I went with only liability due to the high cost of comp insurance. Since scoot theft is easy to pull off insurance companies charge high rates for comp insurance here.

I only had liability for the first month but got paranoid and added theft. It wasn't as expensive as I was expecting -- about $140 for the year.

When I had a cheap Vino or BWS I only went with liability. The GTS on the other hand is somewhat more valuable and I think more of a target for theft. Since getting the GTS I have comprehensive on it and the GT.

I opted for comprehensive coverage which not only covers theft, but damage that occurs from any result other than an accident - a tree falls on it, a fire caused by whatever, and down here, a hurricane blows it away.
I also took uninsured motorist coverage since this is a real problem in our state. We have the highest instance of hit and run per capita of any city in the country. |

I have replacement value comprehensive (theft, accident, etc) insurance with a $100 deductible for $110/year. Seems like money well spent to me.

Yes, I carry it for my scoots - not a big extra cost either. If your on the fence, I vote 'yes' for you. We like polls here on MV, well some of us anyways.

For my LX: comprehensive.
For our Buddy: liability. The LX is not just worth a lot more, it's my commuter vehicle and I really depend on it. |

Sadly for us Canadians, you'll find that we pay way higher insurance rates than the folks down in the US. I went with the liability only. I'm 35 but a new rider. The cheapest I could get was $484 for a year.
If i had a more expensive scooter I would have probably paid for more insurance. I think it also depends on how you expect to use it, and where it will be parked. Mine only lives in my garage, or parked in a secure parking lot at my office. |

Full coverage with a $100 deductible for only $159 a year on our GTS 250. We both have 0 points and a multi car discount with AAA. When Emily had a fall we spent $1100 of our own money to bring it back to new rather than have our rates go up. At the time I had my new BMW and I was afraid that the rates might go UP so I did not turn it in. Come to think about it I do not think either of us have ever turned in a claim against an insurance company.

third party, fire and theft. i've got no collision insurance as it bumps up the cost considerably and neither of my scooters is worth enough to justify it.

lots of folks go by the philosophy that a good insurance policy means not having to lug around a 40lb chain.
I do both. |
