Sorry,

I've searched and found most of what I need. Just a stupid question. On the GTS, wiring in a 12 volt accessory outlet into the head light. Question. Neutrel to Neutrel or Neutrel to ground? Just making sure before Linda leaves on her trip.

Positive-usually the center terminal on a lighter-is wired to a hot wire (preferably fused) and the negative-usually the tab on the housing-goes to ground (either neg batt terminal or a metal part of the scooter) Art

I hope that you're planning to put a relay between the 12v outlet and the headlight connection. If you don't you may overload the circuit which will either blow the fuse and more likely, fry the computer circuitry.

I just installed a 12v outlet on my GTS yesterday. I mounted it on the left-side, removable vinyl panel. I removed the front panel (in front of your knees) and ran the wires down through the metal channel in the middle of the scooter, directly to the battery. I encased the wires in black, flexible tubing so there was no possibility of rubbing and shorting anything out. I used a 12v outlet with a rubber cover from Radio Shack that had a 10 amp fuse. By going directly to the battery, I didn't have to use a relay and it looks great. I can plug a battery charger or any other accessory directly in the outlet with no fear that I will overload the scooter's circuitry. If I plug anything that requires too much load, the 10 amp fuse would blow and nothing would be damaged.
Good luck with your install.

Kevin,
Neutral or negative is ground. That said, what are you planning on powering throught he outlet? How much amps will that draw? That is your key question, and if it is more than a cell phone or a navigator, then you're better off installing a dedicated power line to the battery, with a sufficient fuse in between. Otherwise, you might be able to get away with tapping into the headlight (which would make it a switched power), or into the alarm harness, (which, I think, would make it an always-on power--not recommended).

He's installing a 12v plug for me to charge my cell phone or gps while I'm riding. It really shouldn't be this difficult! I bought the neat little one that Motorsports sells but it doesn't work on the '07.

No problem. A cell phone won't draw more than an amp or two (and probably nowhere near even that much). You could conceivably tap into a number of nearby 12v sources. Make sure the fuse on it is reasonably small (2A, probably) and ground to a screw on the body. There's a nice screw post near the center tube inside the left knee panel. It'll have grease on it from the factory -- clean it off and put an M6 (I think) nut on it, with a ring terminal on the end of the ground wire.
