Hello everyone,

Great forum, real nice community!

I just bought my first Scooter and am still running around with a stupid grin on my face 5 days after bringing it home, i.e. I am happy!

I was reading up on the first service after 1000km or 625 miles in the GTS workshop manual, and the first thing they write is that one should check the safety locks. What are these safety locks?

Thanks alot for your help!

You said you saw this info in the manual...

Why don't you scan and post an image of the page in question, or post the page number of the manual? With that bit of perspective, a member with more experience (and the manual) might be able to solve this.

This is a copy and paste from the current thread "600Miles check up.' It seems that "Safety Locks" refers to the torquing of critical fasteners:

"On the GTS, there's a bunch of chassis and suspension torques to check - called "safety locks" on the maintenance schedule. Also part of the "pre-delivery inspection"; see page "PRE DE - 2" of the shop manual."

vespa s50 - inspect "safety locks"
Hi All,

I found this post and was dealing with the same issue. The manual for the s50 says to inspect the safety locks for the scoot at 600 miles (1000km). It looks like you need a nanometer torque wrench, which I don't own because all the measurements are in nm. (These nm wrenches are also expensive.)

Also, I can't find where I'm supposed to inspect these "safety locks", nor do I know exactly what I'm looking for. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

There are no pictures that I have found in the manual for the s50.

nm are newton meters. Simply do a conversion to inch pounds or foot pounds and you will be OK.

It's newton/meters not nanometers and you can easily convert to ft/lbs by multipling by .736. Example: 50 n/m = 36.8 ft/lbs.

Lock Down
Here's a snap from a GTS manual. There may be slight variations for other models, but this gives you an idea of what they're talking about.
