Just logged 14,000 + km on a punctured and plugged Pirelli GTS24. Rear tire as well!!!
The Green Slime is starting to ooze from the plug, so I think it is time to change tires. I could probably coax another 3 - 4,000 km out of it, but won't take the risk. I will get it vulcanised and keep it as a spare.

What would be the best bang for the buck, re: longevity and performance??

Michelin Pilot City

Continental Zippy

Hidenau K65

OR the original Pirelli

p.s.
Shows to go you, that you really don't need to replace a punctured tire as some of the nervous nellies would lead you to believe.
Mine received the puncture at 400 km, and I got 14,000 km +, with Green Slime and a plug.

I have had good luck with all EXCEPT the Shinko whitewalls I have on there now. Can't wait for them to wear out. Seriously spooky!

I would only put 4 tires on my scooter. The Michelin Pilot Sport SC, the Michelin Gold Standard, the Hidenau K61/K58 or the Pirelli Diablo.

Zippys, but I'm biased.

Dan, I remember you mentioning those whitewalls as being sucktastic, sorry to hear you still feel that way. They looked nice on your bike.

I do not have that many miles yet but I had the original Pirelli SR-38 rear tire blow out and I replaced it with a Continental Zippy. Both tire are great but I think that the Pirelli's where slightly more grippy. On the other hand the Zippy should last quite a bit long from some posts that I have read.

I'm lovin' my new Continental Navigators...nicer tread than the zippy's for wet riding.

You did a 140 on the front too?! I'm having a set of Avon Strykes fitted this week. (130 front 140 back)

I'll have to do two 140's next time.

Sorry wasn't really clear and 120 or a 130 do just fine in front. I'm not really sure if a 140 will fit in front ....width wise. Maybe someone else knows?

Thats funny. I'd never heard of a full on rear 140 being used as a front tire. sounded interesting. I'm good with a 130! Thanks for clarifying

You like your stryke's though? I can't wait to try mine!

The Strykes (for me) are good in the rain and stick to the pavement in the dry. Mileage is double, from what I see others getting from different brands.

Randy,

Is there anything special that needs to be done to install the 140/70-12 on the rear? Im thinking no since I have not seen any postings saying modifications were needed for clearance, but just want to make sure before I head to the dealer to have it installed.

Thank

I don't experiment much with different tires, but I can say that my Zippys have done a great job.

My original Pirelli's didn't last too long, but I got to wondering recently if it was because they wear faster or if it was just because I wasn't a good at maintaining them when I was a new rider.

Well, I recently lost the rear Zippy to a puncture while on the road and had to replace it with a Pirelli. I'll see how long this one lasts and then I'll have a better idea of weather the wear was due to the tire itself or my maintenance.
