I'm deciding between buying a Ti-Force or a Scorpion pipe for my LXV. I heard there is a silencer on the Ti-Force -- does anyone know anything about that. I want more sound and power than stock but definitely do not want to wake the neighbors. Any thoughts?

Thank you in advance!

Had a Ti-Force on my ET4 for several years and more than 10k miles. I enjoyed it very much, but it was very loud and seemed to grow louder over time. My wife could here me coming from a block away.

Performance wise, it does add a nice boost to you low and mid-range power, with no noticeable improvement in the top end, which is to be expected for most pipes.

Over time, the pipe and header held up very well, but the rubber strap that fits into the mounting bracket eventually disintegrated. Also, managed to jettison the spring a few times.

All in all, I was happy with it.

Have no experience with the Scorpion.

I heard that they didn't hold up so well. That said I've spoken with people who were very happy with theirs. I've seen a few for sale online, and I'd spend less than 1/2 the amount for the TiForce. But that said because they hold up longer I'm leaning towards getting the TiForce. I'm just concerned it will be too loud.

Anyone else know anything about the stainless steel ones, and whether there is such thing as a silencer?
Thanks!
Dan

I think you may be confusing two-stroke and four-stroke exhaust terminology.

With two-stroke exhausts, you have an expansion chamber leading into a can that is sometimes referred to as a silencer. In this instance, the design of the expansion chamber makes the exhaust more or less effective and the silencer tones it down a bit.

With four-stroke exhausts, the header runs straight into the exhaust can, which also acts as a silencer. Most four-stroke exhaust set ups have some silencing baffles. The baffles on the TiForce may well be sightly different than those on the Scorpion (I can't say for sure). Regardless, there is no "silencer" component of the TiForce that is particularly special or something not found on the Scorpion. The basics of the technology are the same between the two pipes.

The TiForce is loud, but it is not the loudest pipe in the two-wheeled world by far.

Pulling into a quiet street in the middle of the night, you might wake dogs and light sleepers, if they have their windows open. I imagine that the Scorpion is loud as well, however.

Thank you. That is reassuring.
I heard that some people take the baffles out - is that what makes some of the TiForce pipes significantly louder?

Thank you again!

The baffles weren't easily removable on mine. I would have taken some drilling and cutting. But, yes, taking them out would make for a louder pipe.

Noticing that you live in D.C., I'll give you some real-life perspective on the difference that the TiForce, or other equitable pipes, might make for you. For me, it was going up the hill on Spout Run Parkway, back when I lived in Arlington and worked downtown.

Before and after the pipe, I'd come over the Roosevelt Bridge, hop on GW Parkway and pick up speed, hitting 60-65 mph before the Spout Run exit ramp. Before the pipe, that big hill that is Spout Run would knock me way back to 45-50 mph, which was scary because of cars coming up behind me. The pipe let me hold speed better, by about 10 mph, going up hill, meaning, I was only dropping down to 50-55 mph, if I kept it pegged.
