Yeah, a lad I was at school with had a fizzy and his bike was faster than mine! Was a bit of a nail though. My older sister had a Suzuki AP50 with pedals an' all. That was unrestricted. That was fast for a 50. I tried to get my RD to go faster by putting a 'spanny on it, a micron, but it didn't make much difference. My RD was of the age when the UK government started to crack down on two wheelers and restrict the output of what were called mopeds that you could ride from 16. Maximum design speed 32 mph but my RD went faster, about 45 (on the clock!).
Very nice!!!

The Fizzy's are super popular amongst anorak classic bike guys.

I wish we had gotten more of the small displacement bikes in California. (Like the Kwak AR50's)..At the time I had my 77RD I had borrowed my friends Honda MB5 & ended up having so much fun on that thing.

I recall my buddy Jim getting one of the first Yamaha YSR 50's. did a carb & a Toomey pipe...& you could barely see the top of his helmet in the rear view mirror....

Needless to say I promptly backed into him in my Pinto......he was pleased.

Hahaha....That thing is hauling ass just because of the stripes....(I was always bummed that we didn't get that paint scheme on the bigger RD's in California.....it was my fave.)

what the hell is in the wheels? Playing cards to drown out the sound of the motor?

Great pic...So many folks from England & Europe got their start on those bikes...They are kind of worshipped on the level of the RD's ,RZ's

Very Nice!! I think you have the same red Look pedals that I do, similar wheels too (mine are Mavic) - I'll have to send you a picture of my Guerciotti, you'd probably appreciate it - it's a little over 20 years old, so it's become a "classic" in the time I've had it!

Sears Free Spirit (red white and blue ten speed) mostly but I worked on my friend's HD 250 or 350 was it? Got it running and people started bringing me their minibikes. Started terrorizing the streets on small displacement motorbikes and wanted my own. Mother told me I was to learn to ride "properly" in the dirt so my first purchase was a '75 Kawi 250 enduro. She was right. I learned how to handle a motorcycle in wet grass, wet leaves, gravel, through more than a foot of snow and could cross streams before I got her approval to look into full on street bikes. She also insisted that if she "had a feeling" I was to wear a helmet that day.

We had the biggest blast slinging our bike sideways in the woods and fields.

Yep - three speed, changed by twisting the grip. Complete with a 1-2-3 indicator not unlike a vintage scoot. Didn't help the cool factor though. The fact the bugger weighed about 4 stone didn't help much either. Like trying to pop a wheelie in a Morris Marina. Cheers, Dad.

In 1983 I either rode the subway or the bus. In summer I rode my bicycle.

In 1988 my friend bought a 1976 Honda 750. His parents wouldn't let him keep it. I wasn't living with my parents so he kept it at my place. We rode 2-up down the Gardiner, Lakeshore, and QEW a few times. Then we decided to go to Montreal for a weekend. All day, riding 2-up wasn't comfortable. I wasn't impressed and frankly got kinda turned off motorcycles because of that. I dropped it pretty hard backing up into a parking spot at the pool and I was done riding m/c's.

My wife and I put over 50,000 miles on this Yamaha XS11. My own design fairing and paint job, all polished up, it looked pretty slick and was fast for those days, actually, even for these days! A really comfortable long distance hauler, but lousy going around corners.

I have a friend with 2 of 'em, in boxes. Won't part with 'em. He recalls running from a fight, flicked on the motor and the thugs were gaining on him on foot, so he had to pedal real hard to get away.

Entering the "Wayback Machine, Dudley!"
New to being active in the forum and am really loving it!!!

Twenty five years ago I was on my fifth and last motorcycle that I sold in 1985. It was a 1975 Kawasaki H2E 750 Triple 2 stroke flexible flyer ya' better be hanging on when it hit the power band rocket.
Haven't had anything to ride until I got my 2007 GT200 in November. I just love it. It is the smallest bike that I have had but the performance is great and I can't believe how much I enjoy it. Have 3500 miles on it so far and use it for everything possible.

They called me Mr. Motorcycle when I was a kid but you can call me a Vespa Man now! Off I go with my trusty steed "Guinea Pig".

My list of bikes I had when I was younger is as follows:

1969, Age 17 ...1968 Yamaha 305

1969, Age 17...1967 Triumph TR6C 650

1969-1971 ......1965 Harley XLCH (my favorite bike)

1972-1975?...1971 Yamaha RT1D 360

1979-1985...1975 Kawasaki 750

1980 Yamaha 650 Maxim
1980 Yamaha 650 Maxim

Isn't it interesting how a person, place, or thing from the past, can evoke such reflection.

I rode my Maxim from Newport Beach CA to Mt. Pleasant Utah to visit my sweetheart,
just barely getting out of there as snow fell on me and the road.
At the time, it was an adventure with my folding GPS (paper map from gas station) on my tank bag.
Looking back, I would never take that long of a trip on such a non-touring bike.
It had a tiny little sport screen I hid behind as the rain, falling like bullets, ripped my plastic raincoat to shreds.

I still think of it fondly... Rosebud.
