So as to avoid the titles "Sorry, I'm new and I have a question," or "Newbie needs answer," or "Noob needs advice" I am hoping this is obviously a very basic, and yes, probably quite stupid question. But I love my scoot more than my online ego, so I ask for the better of my Vespa...
but I have yet to receive my owners manuel from my local dealer (had to have it back-ordered) and I am not entirely safely, and positively sure where or how, to best check the oil on my 2002 vespa et2. Other than just looking in the tank and "not seeing it glisten..."
Where, how? When, etc?
Serious newbie thanks, I love this thing too much to let it run like crap till I get the owners manuel or wait for someone else to ask...

the oil is fully or 100% sythetic 2-stroke injector oil , top up tank when you like as it holds over a litre and has a reserve and a warning light when its low , a full tank should last more then 700 miles before the light comes on and will flicker abit when getting low and going roung corners and then stays on when very low

Serious thanks. I know that is a basic question, but thanks for the response. So there is no specific dip-stick of the sort? Also, is it normal for the oil light to come on when you first start the engine?
Just curious. My last scoot was a 50 special from about the late 80's and I didn't know much then, so sort of re-learning now and wanna do it right...
many thanks ...

depending on how familiar you are with 2stroke engines:
lubrification on a 2stroke is one-way, the oil is mixed into the gas and burned. Therefore the oil needs periodical refill depending on mileage.

In contrary on a 4stroke lubrification is a closed cycle with normally very little waste and the need to periodical change of the used oil.

The dip stick is for hub oil - you can find this on the non-show side of the rear wheel (i.e. the riders left side). There is a thing sticking up, and this is the hub oil (what some refer to as the "engine oil" i believe.

The 2 stroke oil as mentioned, is required, as long as it doesn't run dry, it is fine, you fill up as much as you need, like petrol/gasoline - dont overfill it, use some judgement, leave 2-3 inches from the top, if you intend on filling all the way up.

As for the oil light you mention - yes it comes on for a few seconds and then turns off when you start the scooter. This is quite normal.

Hope this helps!

WOW!! Thank you guys so much...I know this is so basic, but returning to scootering after several years (I race road bikes (bicycles), so spend most of the time on a self-powered two wheeler) I want to make sure I do something as basic as this right...better to learn the stuff right and admit lack of knowledge at the beginning I figure then not ask and make noob mistakes...
Serious, serious thanks!
