While out visiting my brother a couple weeks back, I went on a couple of interviews and got a job offer. The new job wants me out there by 8/1, so I'll be out there the week of 7/28 looking for someplace to live.

I already have my scooter ready to be shipped out there this weekend and my brother will be looking after it till I get there. Yeah, I know he'll take her out for rides, but he's got his motorcycle license, and I know he won't do anything stupid.

Anyway, just wanted to give a shout to everyone in Portland that I'll see you in a few weeks!

Cheers.

I lived in Portland from 90-96, I do know this, bring a raincoat.
You may want to switch the leather seat off the LXV so the water doesn't destroy it.

Grab some Blazer season tickets (only game in town)

http://www.nba.com/blazers/

go to Stanfords for dinner, now that place (multiple locations) can flat out prepare ribs or my old favorite, Cajon steak.

For golf we used to play Langdon Farms South of Portland..

And buy your automobile's from Town and Country Dealerships in Milwaukee and Portland. Great dealer group.

Good luck,

Cheers back at ya! Have a good trip out and good luck getting set up with a nice place to live.

I'm a "transplant" from the midwest, and have loved living out here for the past 27 years.

But since I've only had my scooter since last month.. I haven't seen/tried what scootering is like once the rainy season starts in a few more days...

(Just kidding!.. It'll be nice for a few more weeks at least. Actually Portland summers are outstanding for anything/everything outdoors.)

SDG - I lived in Portland for a few months back in '96 to early '97. That was apparently the 2nd rainiest season on record. So, yeah, I'm acquainted with the rain. Thanks for the other info.

Tochaman - Thanks. Trying to sell a house and look for another one 2700 miles away is fun.

Hello and welcome to the neighborhood!

You find a place yet? PM me if you want my local, somewhat biased opinions about neighborhoods, etc.

Congratulations on the new job! You'll love it here.

Welcome to Portland
Longtime resident and scooterist here. Welcome to P-town! Sure it's cloudy 5 months out of the year, but in winter we ski and drink beer in the movies. Find a scooter-chick and keep warm! Like it says in the tourguides "come for the beer, stay for the stripclubs!"

Feel free to PM for free local advice. It's worth every penny.

I am SOOOOO jealous. I miss the NW in my exile in SCal. Don't worry about the rain...best golf I have ever played was in downpours. Many bike rides in the rain. Skiing, sailing, hiking, beer are all great. Oregonians learn to do things in the rain, or they would never be able to do things.

The 10 rainiest cities in the U.S. by amount of annual rainfall include:

Mobile, Alabama--67 inches average annual rainfall; 59 average annual rainy days
Pensacola, Florida--65 inches average annual rainfall; 56 average annual rainy days
New Orleans, Louisiana--64 inches average annual rainfall; 59 average annual rainy days
West Palm Beach, Florida--63 inches average annual rainfall; 58 average annual rainy days
Lafayette, Louisiana--62 inches average annual rainfall; 55 average annual rainy days
Baton Rouge, Louisiana--62 inches average annual rainfall; 56 average annual rainy days
Miami, Florida--62 inches average annual rainfall; 57 average annual rainy days
Port Arthur, Texas--61 inches average annual rainfall; 51 average annual rainy days
Tallahassee, Florida--61 inches average annual rainfall; 56 average annual rainy days
Lake Charles, Louisiana--58 inches average annual rainfall; 50 average annual rainy days

Don't see Portland OR Seattle

Rainer- I'm right with you there, I'm moving up to Eugene, OR on Aug 5th from Ft Collins, CO. I was born and grew up in Oregon but have spent the last 10 years or so in the sun in Colorado. I'm looking forward to going back under the cloud, though. Oregonians are great people, very laid back. My wife, however, is a bit skeptical since she's a South Georgia Peach that is more used to the heat of the dirty south. Anywho, I'm looking forward to the scooter community in Oregon since there isn't much of one here in northern Colorado. Definitely be investing in a windshield and raingear so I can scoot year round. I'm pumped!
